S Brake 01-15-2003, 10:14 PM E followed by the numbers relates to the body style. The current 5 series is designated by E39, the last generation 5 series was the E34 and the next generation 5 series is the E60. The current generation 3 series is the E46, the last generation was the E36 and the generation before that was the E30.
