Porsche Boxster-finished!ZoomZoomMX-5 01-05-2003, 01:36 PM Happy to make this first post on the new server! Finished my Boxster. Started on New Year's, primered on Thursday, painted on Friday, paint details/assembly on Saturday and today. Whew! Thank goodness for Tamiya paint and superglue and zip-kicker, and lots of caffeine. http://images.fotki.com/v14/photos/1/10258/17860/Boxster8-vi.jpg http://images2.fotki.com/v15/photos/1/10258/17860/Boxster7-vi.jpg http://images2.fotki.com/v15/photos/1/10258/17860/Boxster9-vi.jpg http://images2.fotki.com/v15/photos/1/10258/17860/Boxster10-vi.jpg http://images.fotki.com/v14/photos/1/10258/17860/Boxster11-vi.jpg Paint is Tamiya light gunmetal, interior accent color is Tamiya brilliant blue. Wheels from a Modena, body kit from a GT3, including seats. I plan on using a better exhaust tip, but this gets me to our club meeting this afternoon. Integra14 01-05-2003, 01:40 PM wow that looks GREAT!!! and even in that amount of time u took!! i have one suggestion.... I think that it would look cooler if u did something to the back bumper! just my oppinion tho!!! anyways GREAT JOB!:ylsuper ZoomZoomMX-5 01-05-2003, 01:43 PM I thought about doing a bit of work behind the wheels on the rear bumper cover, but just was too lazy and wanted this finished fast...Porsche didn't bother on the GT3 either, so I feel somewhat vindicated. Thanks! Bimmerkid 01-05-2003, 01:53 PM Love the color, awesome model, I don't know if I like the spoiler, though.. IMO it adds a boxy bit to the Boxster's smooth lines. It just looks a little out of place. giordano 01-05-2003, 01:56 PM great conversion!!! love every bit of it. supratuner 01-05-2003, 02:06 PM looking good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i like that color ZoomZoomMX-5 01-05-2003, 02:27 PM Originally posted by Bimmerkid Love the color, awesome model, I don't know if I like the spoiler, though.. IMO it adds a boxy bit to the Boxster's smooth lines. It just looks a little out of place. Simply put, the model needed a spoiler w/the GT3 body kit-it looked nekkid without one. If it were a bone-stock Boxster, no spoiler would have been needed. In a perfect world I might have come up w/a smaller/better looking spoiler (heck, in a perfect world the real car would be in my driveway!), but I was under a self-imposed deadline that I wanted to finish the car in (25-30 hours since Wednesday..ouch!). The GT3 spoiler modified worked well enough. Same goes for the rims-I probably could have found something even better, but time/effort forced my hand-I had an extra set of Modena rims, and they were a direct fit w/o any modifications. They looked as good as the GT3 rims (which are going on a Modena), and as good as any of the aftermarket rims I came up with that would have required new mounting pins/modifications. And I've got about 100 sets to choose from...   :D Thanks for the comments! tomazws 01-05-2003, 02:42 PM best boxster i've ever seen nice ales 01-05-2003, 02:46 PM This is ridiculous! You just started it!!!!!!!!! Looks absolutely great, Bob. I guess it's the dehydrator power that peeds up the process so much, right? ;) I can't seem to find one here, though  Midnight Racer 01-05-2003, 02:55 PM Great work on the Boxster.Looks amazing.Great work. chaos 01-05-2003, 03:03 PM Man - that's like less than a week!!! The car looks fantastic. I like the seat conversation. The colour looks pretty darn good too - I sprayed 2 coats of light gunmetal on my Merc - but, I wasn't pleased with the result - didn't look half as good as the Porsche. Had to strip it down and I decided on gloss aluminium. tonioseven 01-05-2003, 03:18 PM And I've got about 100 sets to choose from You are my modelling idol! Oh, awesome job on the Porsche!!:) kicker1_solo 01-05-2003, 04:01 PM very sweet :) Jay! 01-05-2003, 04:08 PM Good form! And thatnks to the new server we can all see it with no problems:ylsuper flyonthewall 01-05-2003, 04:40 PM That's a seriously cool boxster! I nned to start building my models that quick! Guido 01-05-2003, 04:45 PM Wow, that is one of the best Boxsters I've ever seen, and that only in 3 days. When I try to do that, always, always something goes wrong... Well Done!! 935k3 01-05-2003, 05:02 PM That's one of the most beautiful cars you've made of the ones I have seen. By the way I got your book on airbrushing for Christmas, it's a wonderfully done book. Veyron 01-05-2003, 09:07 PM Just got back from seeing this model in person, it's even better than it looks on here! Bob did a flawless job on it and that interior color really pops!:) daggerlee 01-05-2003, 09:55 PM Awesome work, were you assisted by Mr. Food Dehydrator? :) primera man 01-06-2003, 07:26 AM Very quick build time   Looks fantastic though   Forhod 01-06-2003, 07:33 AM Fast and Neat! ZoomZoomMX-5 01-06-2003, 08:17 AM It was fun, long hours notwithstanding! I have to agree w/Veyron, it does look better in person...sometimes a model looks better in pictures, sometimes it doesn't. I don't have a convenient place for attractive outdoor shots. And wait 'till you see Veyron's latest! Awesome work, were you assisted by Mr. Food Dehydrator? Yes, the dehydrator was working overtime on this one. The bulk of Saturday was spent painting-the second coat of lt. gunmetal, then clear, then all the interior and chassis parts, many of which needed to dry before masking for the black trimwork...from 6pm to 11pm on Saturday I was masking and airbrushing Tamiya SG Black acrylic. Think I spent about 15 hours on Saturday on the model, 4 1/2 on Sunday morning, and about 5 hours Wed-Fri getting the body prepped, primed, and painted w/the basecoat. That's one of the most beautiful cars you've made of the ones I have seen. By the way I got your book on airbrushing for Christmas, it's a wonderfully done book. Thanks! I'm glad to hear from people who really like the book. COZMO6476 01-06-2003, 10:38 AM wonderful job on the porsche. your speed is also an inspiration. Dehydrators rule!! Gainsbourg 01-06-2003, 10:52 AM How can you make such a wonderful job in just 6 days? Amazing. suiteR 01-06-2003, 11:05 AM Very unique!! And quick work too! NoBrakes 01-06-2003, 01:22 PM Simply excelent Great work Cheers Takeshi_Nakazato 01-06-2003, 01:27 PM That is really cool, I like the blue interior accents, they go well with the silver body colour. Where can I get one of these books you guys are talking about? ZoomZoomMX-5 01-06-2003, 01:34 PM Originally posted by Takeshi_Nakazato That is really cool, I like the blue interior accents, they go well with the silver body colour. Where can I get one of these books you guys are talking about? Thanks, I like the color combo a lot, ever since my mom bought a silver 2000 BMW Z3 and we ordered the interior in "topaz" blue...quite stunning, unexpected, and it looks really good compared to the red that everyone else uses w/silver or gray cars. The book "How to use an Airbrush" is by Kalmbach Publishing, if you don't find it at a local hobby shop you can order it from Scale Auto magazine, or their website (or Kalmbach's), or from Amazon.com by doing a search for the book or my name "Robert Downie". The book is written for modeling..no t-shirts, murals, or license plates...only models! Takeshi_Nakazato 01-06-2003, 02:14 PM Nice, I'll check it out, thanks for the info vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
