Enzo Recovery thread...hirofkd 12-24-2002, 04:20 AM Twenty years of modeling experience doesn't mean one can always make a good model. This shows the stage after gray primer. http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/379902tamenzo24.jpg If you are a beginner, be encouraged, because even experienced modelers do screw up. These are just after white primer was applied on gray primer. http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/881425tamenzo25.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/564982tamenzo26.jpg Gray primer was Gunze Surfacer 1200, and I used Modeler's Base white. Problem was that the Modeler's ran out, so I used Mr. Base White 1000 on the same day. This could have been prevented, by not using different brands of primer, or wait for a few days between each coat. So, originally this was meant to be Enzo progress thread, but now it's Enzo recovery thread. First thing to do is to smooth the surface with 1000 grit sand paper, and that's what I'm doing right now. srlxy 12-24-2002, 04:28 AM WOW!!! YOU GOT YOURS!!! I am still waiting for mine... seems that you are going to spend the next few days sanding.. Focus2000 12-24-2002, 04:37 AM Oh dear, one of the most eagerly anticipated models of the year and the paint gremlins attack it! The body looks pretty complicated, but I bet it'll be good fun. Got any more pics of the kit contents? fastlife 12-24-2002, 10:07 AM Whoa! I learned something today....Don't mix primers! :bloated: I know you'll get it back on track. Can't wait to see more pics;) fullbloodchop01 12-24-2002, 10:34 AM :sun: God, the model everyone has been waiting for and someone runs into a problem:eek: , hope that you get the primer off without sacrificing any detail:sun: Forhod 12-25-2002, 01:42 PM Couldn't wait to see this one. Good Luck on it! Guido 12-26-2002, 05:07 AM Sorry to hear that. Keep it up and it'll come out good. Good luck with it and keep us posted on the progress. hirofkd 12-26-2002, 05:28 AM Now, my Enzo project is back on track. These are the parts you need to cut for the body color. http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/143212tamenzo21.jpg And my model looks like this now. I'll wait for a few days and apply the base color. http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/837827tamenzo29.jpg Guido 12-26-2002, 05:33 AM wow, that's a lot of body parts to be painted seperately. But that adds to the realism I guess. Primer looks OK now. As some of you might know, I'm not a fan of the subject, but am always interested in a good build report! This one included. Guido CalsonicR34 12-26-2002, 05:43 AM How do you get the primer so white after u spray it on after the grey primer? After i spray the Mr White surfacer on it still is greyish, how many layers must I apply? hirofkd 12-26-2002, 06:11 AM Originally posted by CalsonicR34 How do you get the primer so white after u spray it on after the grey primer? After i spray the Mr White surfacer on it still is greyish, how many layers must I apply? Hint is in the first post. I used Modeler's Base White, and that was the cause of my problem, because it reacted with Mr. Base White. Modeler's base white and pure white are two of the most opaque white in the Japanese market. One short can costs 700 yen or so, and sure, it's very expensive, but it turn black body into pure white with just about three coats or so. tonioseven 12-26-2002, 11:04 AM I look forward to your completion of this kit! I'll waitbefore I buy one though! Vric 12-26-2002, 11:14 AM I have ordered mine.. should be here in 1 or 2 month :( primera man 12-26-2002, 02:24 PM Originally posted by tonioseven I look forward to your completion of this kit! Ditto....i'm waiting to see what others here think before splashing out some money Tunero 12-26-2002, 02:50 PM woooooooooooooooooooooooooou! amazing! wonderfull! fantastic!!! very very pretty model! hirofkd 12-28-2002, 11:20 AM The 2nd stage of paint preparation is done. http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/660354tamenzo32.jpg The paint I used were Mr. Color acrylic lacquer skin color, fluorescent yellow. and Mr. Retarder. http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/912485tamenzo33.jpg First, the skin color was shot from the the airbrush. No fluorescent yellow or retarder was added, so that the paint was opaque to hide the white primer thoroughly. http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/762284tamenzo34.jpg Then, a few drops of Fluorescent yellow was added to turn it a little yellowish. http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/389070tamenzo35.jpg In the last coat, I added 20% of retarder to slow down the drying time. The surface looks a little rough, but it's not as bad as the one, painted with a spray can. Once the paint is dry, I'll lightly sand the surface to get rid of lint and smoogh the surface. daggerlee 12-28-2002, 05:19 PM Looks great so far, what's the final color going to be? fastlife 12-29-2002, 10:55 AM Yeah what DL said? druid_99 12-29-2002, 11:15 AM I will definitely buy this kit (which will make this my 32nd Ferrari for my collection) after I have received my payments for the Ferrari F50 my friend asked me to build:) hirofkd 12-30-2002, 10:51 PM While waiting for the base color to dry, I started on the engine. This is after Gunze's new stainless silver is used. http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/922862tamenzo39.jpg This is after Tamiya enamel flat black wash is applied. http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/472646tamenzo40.jpg Finally, Tamiya enamel flat aluminum was dry brushed. Can't really see the difference in the photo though... http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/452834tamenzo41.jpg Finished engine assembly. http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/108487tamenzo43.jpg It's easy to locate these exhaust parts by connecting with a brass rod. http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/563462tamenzo45.jpg Two exhaust parts had excess plastic, due to the limitation of a meal mold, so it was roughly cut with a hobby knife, and smoothed with a needle file. http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/496035tamenzo46.jpg This is a typical example of "paint while the parts are on the tree." http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/893141tamenzo48.jpg The caliper can be painted black after it's glued to the hub. These particular parts can be held with a tooth pick, but other parts aren't that easy to hold, so use the tree when needed. Next will be the rear suspension assembly, and the main monocock. Bobj 12-31-2002, 12:59 AM Lookin good so far, cant wait untill they arrive in aus. ales 12-31-2002, 04:27 AM Looks like a thorough process!!! Are you planning to replicate carbon-fibre in any way? primera man 12-31-2002, 06:52 AM Nice looking build up.....keep the pics and details coming as there is alot of interest in this one hirofkd 01-02-2003, 10:59 AM The second coat of base color was applied with the airbrush. This time, a little more fluorescent yellow was added to Character Flesh to make it more yellowish. Since yellow is easily affected by the base color, I wanted to see the effect fluorescent color would make. http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/966025tamenzo50.jpg After two days, I sprayed Tamiya TS-16 Yellow to have relatively thick coat, because it would have to be sanded, before airbrushing very thin yellow. http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/730280tamenzo51.jpg As you can see, the orange peel was developed, and the next step is to smooth the surface with very fine sand paper, such as 2000 grit and above. http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/754141tamenzo53.jpg Veyron 01-02-2003, 02:40 PM smooth the surface with very fine sand paper, such as 2000 grit and above. The Enzo body is going to be a fun one to polish with all those edges and curves! Fooesboy 01-10-2003, 05:14 AM Great! I'm wating for my Enzo to arive from HLJ, they have it on back order :( Keep the up dates coming! :jumpie: JE123 01-10-2003, 01:00 PM That looks awesome man. I can't wait to get mine. Be sure to keep us updated on the progress. hirofkd 01-27-2003, 04:55 AM I'm working on the chassis. I'll post some pictures, when it's done. In the mean time, I painted the wheels of the Enzo with Alclad aluminum. Top is the plated kit parts, and the bottom is the painted wheels. http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/644421wheels1.jpg And in this picture, the silencer is an unpainted kit part. http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/947845wheels2.jpg hirofkd 02-01-2003, 12:24 PM I just wanted to let you guys know that Studio 27's detail kit is out. This has everything one would ever want! But the price makes me  Here's the link. The whole page is for the Enzo http://www.interq.or.jp/japan/acustion/index.html%2018.HTML magicmanjk808 02-01-2003, 03:17 PM Originally posted by ales Have you seen the Acu-Stion detail set? The whole page is for the Enzo http://www.interq.or.jp/japan/acustion/index.html%2018.HTML it's beautiful:D fwdfreak 02-01-2003, 03:22 PM /\ INSANE PRICES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hirofkd 02-01-2003, 03:39 PM I hate the business model of Acu-Stion, so I only buy their products only when I can't find any alternatives. Their products are way over priced, and their rip-off attitude makes Fujimi look like a friendly company. :) How come a sheet of brake rotors cost 2980 yen? Complexity of the design is less relevant to the manufacturing cost of a photo etch parts, and it should be something like 800 or 1200 yen at most. I'm sure SMS will do far better job than AS for 1/2 the price. ales 02-01-2003, 03:52 PM And that says a lot considering that the pricing of SMS items is not exactly the cheapest out there ... I totally agree on overpricing. I would loe to view small modelling-related companies as companiesfounded and run by enthusiasts, and with profit, while being important, still not being the main consideration. So I will not be buying AS stuff. Can't afford it. And it makes me quite sad as now I don't feel the Enzo model will look right without them. Alex Vyacheslav 02-01-2003, 03:59 PM Are you going to sand off the peal and cover it with one or two more coats of paint? hirofkd 02-01-2003, 04:07 PM The founder, Takenaka runs his own acupuncture clinic, making six figures, driving a black Boxster S. Does he have to make money from his hobby? I really doubt it. On the other hand, S27's Enzo detail kit is pretty good for money, isn't it? Especially the rear mesh screen, because it's really hard to form it out of a mesh sheet (I tried.) >Vyacheslav Yes, I will. Usually, I leave the body color as is, and sand and smooth the clear layer, but because of the screw up, I have no choice but to smooth the yellow layer as well. I'll post step by step pictures when I'm done with that stage. Integra14 02-01-2003, 04:10 PM looking good.. im loving all these ENZOS!!!! lets see some more progress! _835_ 02-18-2003, 11:31 AM hiroaki , any improvment ? i am waiting with impatience to see SMS Work !! as they do a Super Detail Kit version of it, as i heard the CF template set contains over 48 parts  Cheers hirofkd 02-19-2003, 02:17 AM I can't wait for the SMS detail set either. Mine's gonna be red. As for my yellow Enzo, it will be tamiya + S27 PE set. Today, I just got PPG paint I ordered a few days ago, and I'm very happy to have them. They are Rosso Corsa, Rosso Fiorano Metallic and Giallo Modena. The leveling speed of this urethane paint is very fast, and it dries quickly too. I'll cover the tamiya paint with this urethane yellow as a final coat soon, and once it's done, I'll use 2 part urethane clear. They came in 300 ml vitamin drink bottles. :) http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/436289P2190002.JPG The photo is poor, but they actually look realistic. One of my 360 kit will be in Rosso Fiorano. http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/970488P2190005.JPG CalsonicR34 02-19-2003, 03:43 AM Since you will be putting S27 photoetch parts for the enzo i wondering how to put those vents on the glass that covers the engine, and it says you have to remove the plastic. OPM 02-19-2003, 03:46 AM they were expensive, right?:D hirofkd 02-19-2003, 04:16 AM > CalsonicR34 I think you just paint it black and glue it on the clear part. Cutting clear part is very risky, so I'll just leave it as is, and glue the PE parts. > OPM The actual factory touch up paint is expensive (like 4000 yen for a small bottle), but if it's custom mixed using the PPG code, it isn't so expensive. Problem is that it's kinda hard to find a shop that mix and sell such a small quantity. It was 1000 yen (about $8) for 50 grams, and it's enough for more than ten kits by airbrush. Considering Modeler's Racing spray of 700 yen, and that covers only 2 - 3 kits, I think it was a bargain. I should have ordered the orange pearl used on the Lambo and the FF Supra, and sell even smaller quantity to some of AF members. It was supposed to be a limited time offer, but I'll ask. OPM 02-19-2003, 04:31 AM okay, thats quite cheap:)for such nice colors:) ssibangse 02-19-2003, 06:30 AM whoa.. nice recovery.. nice color to boot.. is that the official yellow for the Enzo? looks hot :D :D :D :D pettercardoso 01-17-2004, 03:47 PM *bump* Any updates on this one?! I haven't seen any yellow enzo models up to now. :D TireGaint 01-18-2004, 05:47 PM Cant wait to see it done. Awesome. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
