-Which new car should I buy a 4, WRX sti, Lancer EVO?dolla_bill0913 12-21-2002, 09:22 AM LET ME HEAR YOUR OPINIONS AND TELL ME ABOUT ANY OTHER CARS I SHOULD CONSIDER. Looking for a fast 4 door, which would you buy a neon SRT-4, WRX sti, or Lancer EVO? phatdex 01-04-2003, 08:22 PM evo of course, i have never seen that neon thing, but it is an american car so it must be crap. And evos shit on wrx's so it has to be the evo then. (not bias, pure fact from every comparison ever) BlOOe46 01-04-2003, 08:25 PM if ur looking for a fast 4dr, build ur own custom rides/ applications are way better then anything u can overpay for from a factory . . . in the end ull be satisfied with ur own sweat and blood in the work:bandit: phatdex 01-04-2003, 08:37 PM but evo is a good place to start. For very little money u can make them fly! 3" turbo back exhaust, new Front mount intercooler, bleed valve to up the boost and a new programmable computer and u will be flying. My friend does 12.5 1/4 mile in his evo 5 with just exhaust and higher boost! gidders 01-16-2003, 05:20 AM I have just sold my WRX STI type RA (leight weight) and bought a EVO VI. If you want a rocket to 110 mph, it willl beat a Ferrari 355, but the EVO VI offers better styling better interior and is not far off the pace, I am sure the RS (leight weight) is nearly as quick as a leight weight scooby. I just think scoobys feel tiny and the EVO's feel better made and more sturdy. It depends what you are looking for, scoobys are cheeper but EVO's all round are better. Dont think the Neon even comes into the equation ! :smoker2: Lil red '03 01-16-2003, 08:04 AM In regard to the neon - you know what MoPar stands for, right? My Old Pig Ain't Runnin... Think 'bout it. Junior Philadelphia Eagles 2002 NFC Divisional Champs!!!!!! BooYa!!!!:finger: Trijenji 01-24-2003, 02:11 PM phatdex, you are a fucking moron. The WRX STi will rape the Evo VIII. WRX STi is 2.5 liter and has 300 hp, while Evo is only 2 liter and has only 271 hp. Get your facts straight idiot. phatdex 01-24-2003, 05:21 PM ok, chuck a mental why dont u. No one has seen this new engine perform yet, and I was basing it on a current STI, which an evo creams. Also power doesnt necessarily equate to faster times, especially throught the twisties. And I know EVO's are better, I have witnessed and driven both, I know what I am talking about. And as I have said before, if the japs dont like subaru, there must be a reason. Quote from head of HKS, "we give no fuck for subaru". Read this in an interview with him. phatdex 01-24-2003, 05:23 PM and my facts are correct, i have watched many comparisons between the two and the evo has always won. We will see what the new Sti does, but they could have got 300hp easily from the 2L motor too. XenoKryst 01-26-2003, 07:21 PM Originally posted by phatdex Quote from head of HKS, "we give no fuck for subaru" Big fan of LanEvo VI. I was just wondering where you read this from. I would really be interested to read all about this Japanese not liking Subaru. I can understand from the possibilities that Subaru engines can't take as much as other Japanese car manufacturers, but HKS saying something like that I don't think is appropriate. I was in a similar situation to buy a car but unfortunately, because Canada has no EVO, I was left to pick from a WRX, Legacy, IS300, RX-7(used), Infiniti G20(used), Eclipse(used), and a long list of american cars. The RX-7 was my first choice but I hesitated and it was sold before I could take it. The WRX is currently sitting in my garage along with a Accord. I would say it was a good choice, despite not knowing what Mitsubishi and EVO has to offer, I am pretty happy with what I got. I would trade both Accord and WRX for an EVO VI (not VII or VIII!) anytime any day! Moppie 01-26-2003, 09:58 PM There is no need to start calling other members morons just because you disagree with them. And US versions of the cars aside the EVO has always been faster than the WRX STi. Both cars currently have over 300hp and the performance differnce is tiny, so small most ppl would never notice it, and even in compition I doubt it would show up. But several tests by Magazines and car shows have shown the EVO to be have fractionaly better accleration, a bit more grip and more responsive chassis. Since the US versions of both cars have yet to go on sale (the EVO is damn close) then you can not compare them. Its is yet unknown if the EVO has as much hp as the version sold to the rest of the world, or if the WRX STi will even get the same engine as the rest of the world. RACER D12 01-27-2003, 07:48 AM Well untill they come out im going with the STI theirs no replacement for displacement Twist 01-27-2003, 11:37 AM "There's no replacement for displacement" is a terrible point of view from an engineering perspective. More displacement means more weight. More weight means a less balanced chassis which affects handling. It also means that the more horsepower generated must move more weight. While the difference between 2.0 liters and 2.5 liters isn't likely to have that large a difference it still is a difference. Effieciency from the engine you have is best. That's why cars like the S2000 are so amazing because they get over 100 horsepower per liter. This is a general case, manufacturer's can obviously counter these problems. The WRX STi and the Evolution are both solid bets, though. They have lots of aftermarket support and are great cars. I don't know much about the Neon, but my preference is to the Japanese rally specials. :) RACER D12 01-27-2003, 12:18 PM Originally posted by Twist "There's no replacement for displacement" is a terrible point of view from an engineering perspective. I mean come on STI=lighter more displacement (.5 more than the EVO) to me the STI makes more sense, but we each have our own opinion of what makes a car better or have more potenial this is just MY opinion. What turbos are the in the STI and EVO? Twist 01-27-2003, 02:34 PM The Evo VIII is supposedly focusing more on lightening the car, but I don't know if it will make it lighter than the WRX STi. What turbo's are in the cars? The Evo VIII (this is what is coming to America, confirmed by dealer): Twin Scroll Turbocharger with Oversized Front Mounted Intercooler with 2-nozzle auto-spray water cooling with manual control feature. I don't know about the WRX STi. Moppie was right when he said: the EVO has always been faster than the WRX STi. Both cars currently have over 300hp and the performance differnce is tiny, so small most ppl would never notice it, and even in compition I doubt it would show up. But several tests by Magazines and car shows have shown the EVO to be have fractionaly better accleration, a bit more grip and more responsive chassis. Here is what evo magazine has to say about the two: Super Saloons: Our Choice: The Mitsubishi Evo VII. Imprezas may be more refined and better value, but if you want the ultimate thrill from a four-door, it has to be the Evo. Ferociously fast, razor-sharp responses, though the Evo VI looked hornier. FQ-300 'upgrade' is terrific. Best of the Rest:The Impreza WRX STi is a less frantic Evo alternative but just as effective. Notice what both of them say (about current models), the choice is really a personal one because the differences are minute. So stick with what you like. :) phatdex 01-27-2003, 06:39 PM The EVO VII runs a TD06 turbo which is bigger than the sti's and has more market backup ie replace compressor side for bigger etc etc. Dunno what turbo the sti runs. I read about HKS saying that in one of my Australian magazines, cant remember which. Seriously tho, how many evos do u see done up by tuners in japan and then how many stis? From all the videos I see where people go to japan etc etc it is very rare to see a wrx compared to evos and gtr's and silvias. Once again, dont bag me, this is all knowledge i have aquired from mags etc, not first hand knowledge. Yes you.     And your wrong about the EVO Hp number. No one yet knows the US versions true hp, but the version sold to the rest of the world has well over 300hp, I see no reason why the US spec one should be any less. (the 271hp, is a conversion from the 280ps quoted hp for the EVO VII, its not the cars true hp). phatdex The WRX is a very common car when compared to the EVO, even the STi model is made in higher numbers. It means it gets a lot more surport from aftermarket companies both inside and outside of Japan. Here in NZ there are at least 3 aftermarket Shops in Auckland alone that specialise in nothing but Subarus, (mostly WRX's). But there is no one who specialises in Mitsi's, (or EVO's) However due to the rarity and somewhat vicious nature of the EVO, as well as its rally success, and the fact that the WRX is now old news you will tend to see more EVO's presented in magazines and mgazine style car programs. They are also becoming a lot more popular in Drag racing since the 4g63 is a much cheaper and easier engine to tune than the FJ20 in the WRX, and the EVO driveline is a bit stronger. And of course a lot of drag racing is based around Image, and at the moment the EVO has a "cooler" Image than the WRX. The reality is there is very little between the EVO VII(I) and the WRX STi in terms of performance, and no real justifiable reasons why one car is better than the other. Both are just as reliable, and at the end of the day just as easy to tune. However both have slightly differnt chracters, and differnt ride, and a differnt feel when driven. Which car is better in that regard is totaly up to the individual, and both cars should be driven before a choice is made. Im also going to close this thread. It dosnt really belong here, and theres no point moving it as there are several similar discussions going on in here: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/f666/  vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
