Just a little question for all of you WRC-techies; should (keeping in mind the official regulations on wrc cars) it be possible to have an Alfa Romeo gtv competing in the wrc?

just asking this because i'm planning to make a wrc of my tamiya GTV, with parts from an unbuilt ford focus Wrc

I guess it should be quite funny to see it built and a nice challenge that I put myself up to.

If it should theoretically possible in real life, i'll keep you posted ;-)

and if you guys have any tips, comments, whatever, feel free to post

oh, yes, color will be red  :flash:

:flipa: As I saw the many advices, tips and hits you guys gave me, I had to continue my project :flipa:
Anyways, here are some process pics!!

I 've cut the vital WRC parts from a Focus Wrc chassis (tamiya) and fit it in the Alfa Romeo. Next steps are to reduce the heighth of the roll-cage, putty some bits and pieces of the chassis and paint all the different parts. Eventhough some parts are painted, consider them as unpainted, everything has to be re-done.:D

So , :flipa: feel free to post comments, suggestions and whatever crap you might come u with !!

:D Cheers

Doesn't fit!! ouch, i 'll have to cut!

Another proof that the focus's chassis doesn't fit properly.

Cool project! I guess you can have any car as a rally car. If i got my GTV bodykit done in time, you could add that too! ;)

Oh my...I have to have that one. And the Kaminari Celica. And the Ultimate Celica. Guess I'd better get the Paypal thing going, eh?

And that rally car is looking sweet! That's the kind of conversion I love to see, something like a "what if" kind of project. Looks great so far.

It's the Alfa Romeo GTV made by tamiya, made out of plastic. It's a nice model car to build, had an engine (quite detailed).

Ps Flyonthewall; :)
Every car cannot be a WRC car, i've gone through the rules and regulations and a car has to be over 4 meters in length (that's why the 206 WRC has those silly bumpers). Also the car has to be based on a production car that has got to be produced 2500 times (not sure bout that though...). Also it may only have a maximum 2.0 litres engine , coupled to a turbo. Thes are the main rules, otherwise, anithing can be changed to suspension, chassis, interior....

Conclusion being; The Gtv is a possible WRC !:D ;)

and if somebody could post a picture of a wrc engine bay, that could help me a lot, thanks on beforehand.

Yes, thats certainly true for WRC. Reading back i realise that's what you meant, sorry!:D What i was reffering to was rallying in general - just stick a roll cage in it, fire extinguisher and add a few stickers - it's a rally car!!!:D

Wee update, put putty on it, and now waiting for it to dry.
Question; how long does it take for tamiya putty to dry well before i can give it a thorough sanding?

update; done the prepairing of the body, added putty to make a bulge on the hood (not very well visible) added putty to make a bit larger arches, sideskirts and primered... Also changed the intakes on the front bumper and made it larger.
still a lot of sanding to do before it will get it's definitive paint scheme, I was thinking about doing the body italian red and the hood and the roof pure white, what do you think??
I also have martini decals and other decals in my spare box..

Also the interior is being built , rolcage fitted...
I was wondering if I should leave he hood open or make it a curbside... leaving it open would mean a lot of work ... I don't know if I m up to make wrc parts for my engine...
but anyways

comments are more than welcome

Hey, I'd forgotten about this project. Nice to see it's still going to happen

The red body/white roof sounds good, should fit in well with the Martini decals although they usually have blue stripes as well...but you might have some of them in the decals.

Keep up the progress pics!

Howcould I possibly have missed this cool project??

anyway, it takes a lot of courage to go this route, but it is most certainly an interesting porject!! Keep up the good work.

About the colours. I wouldn't do the red/white on - makes it look like a Xsara... It's Italian and it's a rally car!! You only have on option to go here -> Martini!! Not the Focus-like livery, but the older Lancia one with striping running from front to rear. You knwo what I mean, right ;)

I think your fortunate to have the ability to add the engine to the model and think you should really consider adding the engine detail to the kit, not many have engine detail. I'm sure we can get you some pictures of rally car engines.

I think that almost any car can be a rally car, the only requirement is that there must be a road version that had sold a specific number of models, the brands to have competitive cars, make models that are sold by a short time, for example the Lancia Stratos, was done for rally, but it had the street version to get into rally, the 206 wrc is based on the 206gt that has the front and rear bumpers almost exactly as the WRC, but not the wide, so, as I said almost every car can be a rally car, to enter on one or another category... this is another thing of wich I dont have idea
