stalling issue

i have a 89 cherokee that i just bought. at idle or low speeds it will sometimes stall. the prev owner had all maintence records and it show that the crank position sensor was just replaced. it normally will stall when stoped and not under acceleration. i does sometime surge at slow speeds. any suggestions where to start?

Hmm it sounds like the CPS is going out, i would have it checked to make sure it is a good part

thats what i first thought, but in searching this board it seems most peoples problem with the cps occurs at all speed ranges and causes a no start. i can start it as soon as it stalls. still sound like the crank sensor? if so i will take your word for it and get it tested or replace it.

Could be the Crankshaft Position Sensor. But you may also want to make sure that your plugs, cap, rotor, and plug wires are new.

Mine did the same thing, i would be driving down the road and it would just die i could restart it, eventually it got to the point where it didn't want to restart or it would crap out at the light and there would be a line of cars behind me, after about five minutes it would restart, after that i just replaced it. no problems since:rofl:

What about the idle control solenoid. Not sure what its called, but I would think that a cps would give other indications. ALso check your vac lines for cracks or broken hoses.
