2002 Dodge Ram Van 2500 - 98K miles - transmission rebuilt less than 1 year ago.

This is the 3rd time in a month that the shifter (on the column) has gotten stuck in "P." The other two times it eventually came out and worked fine for a while. This time, it won't budge (it seems).

The transmission was rebuilt professionally less than 1 year ago and we've had no trouble with it since. This problem has only been ocurring recently.

If someone can walk me through what to look for, I can take the column apart to see if there is a problem there.

HELP HELP HELP!!!!!!:banghead:

Were you parked on a hill when this happened?
When this happens, do your brake lights come on when you press the pedal?

Thanks for the reply...

NOT parked on a hill (very, very, very slight incline if any)
Brake lights DO come on when pedal is pushed.

It's been cold here (single or negatives overnight), would that have anything to do with it?

For the giggles of it if you have tilt steering, try changing the angle as well turning the wheel.

You need to isolate if your problem is in the column or at the linkage on the trans, maybe slide under and give it a shot of lube :dunno:

If you've got water, chunks of snow or ice on the linkage and it freezes, then yes the cold weather could be a factor. That aside, no the cold temperature shouldn't matter.

yeah do that and turn the key at the same time as turning the wheel then hld the steering wheel and try to put it in first then see what happens or you possibly need a new tranny.:banghead:
