95 Camry loses accelerationVasullys 12-11-2007, 10:38 PM My '95 Camry LE just started having issues with acceleration after it has been running for a couple of minutes. I could be driving 40 MPH or at a red light. Once I try to accelerate, it starts to cut-off power and just continues to slow down, sometimes trying to accelerate slightly. I've been able to shut the car off for a few minutes, then restart, and sometimes it will go, while other times it will continue with slight attempts to accelerate. I have been able to put the car in Neutral or Park and push down on the accelerator and the car will rev. Does anyone have any thoughts? xfeejayx 12-11-2007, 11:27 PM is your temperature gauge moving at all? are you overheating? RIP 12-12-2007, 01:04 AM A few suggestions: Get the fuel pressure tested > Pour in a can of fuel conditioner or injector cleaner or both at the next fill up > If you have a distributor you should still be able to check the timing adjustment with a timing light > Remove the air duct from the throttlebody and clean using a spray throttlebody cleaner > Inspect all the battery, battery ground, engine to chassy ground, coil, and whatever sensor connections you can find and make sure they are tight and not corroded. Are you seeing a Check Engine light? Did this start all of a sudden or has it crept up on you? Any maintenance performed lately? somick 12-12-2007, 11:44 AM What is your car's maintenance history: plugs, wires, distributor cap? Sam Vasullys 12-13-2007, 02:49 PM I'll try to answer your questions.... The check engine light hasn't come on, there hasn't been any issues with overheating, and the acceleration loss just started about a week ago. We acquired the car about a year ago and have only driven it for roughly 3K miles (it has 178K miles on it). I replaced the battery in June and had the engine mounts, as well as a CV joint boot replaced in October. I'm not aware of the last time the plugs, wires, etc. were replaced. I'll have to check the connections when I get home tonight. I did put a bottle of dry gas in over the weekend with a full tank. But when it was driven Tuesday night, it continued to "act up".
