'99 escort engine swap with Honda Eng?rivalbro 11-30-2007, 01:29 PM Hi guys, I have a Ford Escort '99 with a 1.6L Zetec engine, it doesn't give much power to which I'm used to. We don't have a Ford friendly environment here where I live in the Middle East. Now for minor power I can always get air filter exhaust or ignition plugs changed, put it won't give me significant power boost. I thought if I swap the engine for a B16, B18, or H22 it would gain nice power and will be easier to maintain because around here I can find anything for those plus I can turbo those engines for more power. My question is, can this be done smooth or its a big hassle? Do I need to get new shocks because the car is having the stock suspensions, which suspensions would you recommend and where can I get them who ship all the way to Middle East? Any more info would also be very helpful. TeamExploder 11-30-2007, 02:16 PM Well I can see we're talking about a foreign escort well to me it looks to be foreign. I would imagine that motor wouldn't be big on power, not so sure about your idea with the honda engine, but since you already have a Ford why don't you put in a zetec out of a focus? Surely you have them around your area, I believe the ZX2 was only an american car. But I believe your focus or now that I think about it, it maybe called a Mondeo where you live but I think they have a 2.0 DOHC motor which is quite powerful for a 4 banger. You can buy turbo kits for those motors too. This way your less likely to have to mod your drive-train. You would want to get a mechanic manual on both your escort and your donor vehicle so when installing you can look over wire colors/connectors to make sure they're going to right spot so you don't burn something up or short something out. rivalbro 11-30-2007, 03:10 PM then I would need to check the places here for a 2.0 DOHC focus engine right? I don't think the focus here comes in 2.0 but Mondeo sure does i know this because i've driven it. Would you by any chance know the code for the engine you're referring to? and also the specs? Sadly i can't even find info on the current engine I got which is a Zetec 1.6L DOHC rivalbro 11-30-2007, 03:38 PM from Wikipedia.org I could find that the engine under the hood now is the 1.6L Zeta badged as Zetec and has 90HP, and the 2.0L Mondeo engine is also a Zeta badged as Zetec having 130HP, i think this engine might be a high compression, which means turbo wont be useful! TeamExploder 11-30-2007, 03:45 PM I aint sure, since car names can differ in countries with diff. engine sized could be. I was just tryin to point ya in a direction that would more than likely work and would work easier. rivalbro 11-30-2007, 04:34 PM well, my engine is this one right now http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x319/rivalbro/engine.jpg anyone can help me truly identify this engine oh and i inherited this car from my brother who bought a new toyota recently. this car was damaged in the cyclone we had and went into repairs, just came out 2 weeks ago, the engine and a/c work nice, but i dont kno why they have set the fan to high speed all the time TeamExploder 11-30-2007, 04:46 PM hell thats bout the size of a 2.0 one of them would fit well. rivalbro 12-06-2007, 02:56 PM ok just so you guys know, I decided to go with the swap for a Honda, B16 or B18, then if its not enough power then i will go turbo, but if enough then i will stay NA, I will post the pics when the engine is sitting there. Now I'm getting the body work done, something wrong with the bumper and hood, it doesnt close! got brakes and axles fixed also. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
