Tips on building the R34 Skyline...

Now you all seem to have one!!!

A few things I have learnt in the building process....

Another one you have to pay attention to the suspension, it needs to sit just right!

I lowered mine by filing the top of the hub section a little (See pic)

This settled the front nicely.

Don't glue the centre section of the grille to the body, as it paints better if left unglued, the paint won't then fill the gap! Between each coat, just lightly pull the bumper down and the front snaps away, leaving a nice crisp line!

Once all is painted and polished, it can be glued in place.

Use glue sparingly when attacthing the bumpers and side sills, ,try not to disturb the shut lines of the doors etc...

I'll try and get some more done to finish it.

I only need to add 2 coats of lacquer to finish all painting! So what is it doing here in the UK today? Yep, Raining!!!

All other parts are ready! I need to urge you to do an aftermarket exhuast!
They look great with a big 5" Nismo tail pipe out back!
I'll show you pics of mine!

I also used the brakes off the Volvo BTCC.

You decided for sure on colour yet?

Yep....the TS-50 Mica Blue.

Q...How did you find the blue covered the white body.
I was thinking of a silver undercoat first.

Primer it first for sure, it takes the plasticyness away!

Never had to use a silver base, but it won't do any harm!

A white primer would be good, make sure it is plastic primer though!
Don't want you experiencing the same problem I did with my first R34!

Always obliging!

Use Tamiya Titanium silver for the centre console section.

Do you want some of the real car too?

Some hints for the back!

Careful, it is easy to over darken the orange on the rear lights. Only use 2 coats max and try and keep them orange!
A little too red on this pick!
Also, the exhausts need darkening inside using semi gloss black, maybe matt black!
The fog light should have a silver edging round it, the reverse light is right!
See pick or real car!!!

For the front, the lights really need a thin black line round them to remove the bright line you get round the plastic.
See how the lights are really dark on the real car!
Also notice how the line for the bonnet shut line isn't great on the model, the result if you glue it in place before painting!
DON'T! Glue it after all painting is done, using clear glue and not much of it!
This is all stuff you learn once you have made this model a few times!:D

My R34 (when I get one) will definitely be black. Not blue. Everyone does blue. :D

The third brake light on the model got too washed out. :( It looks pink.

Heh! :D It's already planned out... See, the Skylines are like a metaphor for my friends' Nissan Maximas (since they don't make Maixma kits). My friend Gil has a white 4th gen Maxima and my friend David has a black 5th gen. So, it's all planned out...

The R32 is totally fair game on the other hand. It'll have nothing to do with anyone's Maxima. :D So I think I'll choose gun gray metallic fot it. :D

I want to thank you all for these tips, especially Dan. I went to my local hobby shop and ordered one of these kits about 25min ago.

I couldnt resist after I have seen how sweet it looks, and with all these tips, there is little chance (there is always a small chance) of me screwing it up. I should have the monte done by the time the R34 gets here.

Once again im almost broke, but well worth it :D

Me too! Airbrushed them! I also flicked some blue over the main seat colour to add the effect od cloth, but you can barely see it!
