security problem

My son drives a 1998 Jimmy. Recently he has been having a problem with the alarm system. He has two remotes for the car. When he uses one of them, the car will unlock and the alarm will deactivate but the car will not start. When he uses the other remote, the car will start but the security light stays on.

Is it a factory installed security system, or an aftermarket add-on system?
