Hood replacement -- aftermarket OK?

I need body work -- including hood replacement -- on a 1994 Volvo 940 wagon (non-turbo).

Would you have any reservations about getting an aftermarket hood? Cost savings would be $400+.

The guy at the third and last shop from which I got an estimate said he won't install aftermarket hoods. He made some vague references to safety and durability.

The first -- and cheapest -- estimate came from a shop recommended by many folks here at the office. The guy there suggested an aftermarket hood.

well an aftermarket hood will look the same for sure, as far as fit and finish? and strength? never happen, go Volvo man the only way. Aftermarket parts are made to look the same and thats about it, they are cheaper for a reason, Because they're cheap!. After it starts dingin and denting from leanin in with the wax and polish you'll see why that guy didn't want to sell you one. Good Luck!

I've had the aftermarket hood on the car for about 7 weeks. So far so good. Time will tell I guess ...
