Hi,
My roomie has a 1989 Volkswagen Fox that the headlights stopped working on yesterday.

The running/parking lights work as do the highbeams when you click on the rod to turn on the high beams, it's just the lowbeams.

He already purchased new headlight and plugged it in just to eliminate that possibility.

My feels is that it is the switch on the dash... So, how does one remove this switch. Im kinda hoping you can somehow get the switches rocker knob off and then just unscrew it from the dash instead of having to disassemble the dash itself.

Does anyone know how to remove the headlamp switch from the dash on a 1989 VW Fox?

If I recall correctly when i owned an 88 fox the ground for the headlights which should be a black wire coming from one of the headlights or possible tying directly into the neg battery cable. The contact had corroded where the black negative wire made contact with the vehicle chassis. I think that location was just left of the female part of the hood latch. My prob was identical having just the lights going out ,but the others illuminating

...its worth a try

You may have to wire your white wire from your switch to your headlamp until you find that wire's trouble spot - I had this happen to me last summer on the way back home - got fixed though - it was the wire - hope this helps!

Wow, old topics do live on.

we replaced the switch on the dash and the headlights worked again. Then a month later he sold it to a junkyard for $75.00 (the car, and the new switch).

Thanks though
