98 Taurus w/ P1744 CodeSwitzler 11-12-2007, 03:09 PM I bought my 98' Taurus about three years ago and I had the transmission replaced after 6 months from the day I bought. Recently, I've been getting 1744 code usually when I'm on a highway and it goes off when I'm on local roads. Transmission seems fine to me although RPM goes up to 3000 and it goes back down in a while when I first start the car. Another problem I've been having is that the car sometimes goes fast enough without me pressing a gas pedal that it shifts to 2nd gear if I don't slam on a break. I'm not sure any of those problems are related to 1744 code I'm getting but I really need some experts' opinions on it. Help me out guys. I can't do absolutely anything without a car in this town I live... shorod 11-12-2007, 06:39 PM Welcome to the forum! There is a very handy "Search this forum" link on the Taurus forum main page. Try searching for the keyword "P1744" and you will get a few hits. With your code and the 2nd gear shift issue, I'd be inclined to think you probably have a speed sensor issue. -Rod Switzler 11-12-2007, 08:46 PM Welcome to the forum! I have used 'serch this forum' feature and I could find some stuffs on P1744, but I couldn't be fully satisfied with any of them because my transmission was rebuilt less than 3 years ago and I've only put 30k miles more on it. I'm thinking about flushing the coolant system since it seems the most reliable information I could find here so far. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
