Just wondering if I can pick a few brains here. I have a SES light what seems to be a bad egr valve on my 96' with 155K. So I swapped it out with a different one and I still have a SES light on. Has anyone ever dealt with this problem and if so how do I remedy it? Thanks

These are the parameters that set that code, http://service.gm.com/gmspo/mode6/pdf/1996/96c38K_C__yE.pdf A bi-directional scanner can command the egr and confirm it's operation, did you put on a known good one? Did you clear the code and it returned?

That's the only problem, I am not sure if the egr is a known good one. I don't have access to a scanner like the one you are talking about. Is there anything else that would set a code P1406? How about a bad o2 sensor.

It doesn't do any good to clear the code without fixing the problem. Maxwedge is talking about a scanner that the repair shops/dealers use and you ain't getting one of those for $100. I know what the problem is I am just trying to troubleshoot before going out and buying a new egr valve. They are $150!

Just wondering if anyone knows how to test/ohm out a egr valve off the vehicle. I need to confirm that's bad before going out and buying one. Thanks
