1999 Eurovan Cruise Control Problem

My 99 EVC cruise control frequently disconnects while driving on a straight and level road. Sometimes I can re-engage it by pressing the resume button; other times I have to recycle the on/off switch a few times before the c/c engages; sometimes nothing works and I have to shut it off and try again 50 miles later. Usually the cc works only for 5-10 miles at the most.
There seems to be enough depression of the two switches contacting the brake pedal arm (one switch is black, and controls the brake lights and the shift lever interlock, the other switch is white, and I don't know what it controls--the cc?). All brake lights work.
Any suggestions as to what the problem could be?
Thanks, Tom

most common problem believe it ornot is the brake fluid level in resvior but may have other problems as for the brake switches one will be for brake lights and one will be for cruise.
