turbo vs SC question (no, not a comparison again)iceiso 12-01-2002, 06:54 PM alright, i have a question. pretend we have a civic that makes 300HP with a turbo charger, and one that makes 300 with a supercharger. PRETEND that they weigh the same and have all the same parts. my question is, would the one with a 300 SC run faster than the Turbocharged one? because, i mean, you have 300 HP to the wheels rather than waiting for a turbo to kick in, so is it common sense to believe that the Supercharged one would run faster? because it has 300HP for "longer"? haha, i know that superchargers don't make balls to the wall power like turbochargers, but just a question. thanks for any replies! Self 12-01-2002, 10:22 PM ALL other things being equal(which would almost be impossible) I would say that yes, that would be correct. The supercharged car would more than likely have a better torque graph, giving it harder acceleration sooner and for longer than the turbo'd vehicle. Not positive though... chad174 12-02-2002, 09:46 PM well, thats a good question. but just because the s/c boosts quicker, does not mean it will be faster. the s/ced car will be faster off the line and in lower revs, but the turbo car will be faster in higher revs once it's spooled up. i'm not sure which would be faster, but i just wanted to put in my 2 cents that the turbo car will pull harder in the top end. Polygon 12-04-2002, 01:54 AM All things being equal the SC would get the hole shot, but the turbo would pull ahead eventually. my question is, would the one with a 300 SC run faster than the Turbocharged one? because, i mean, you have 300 HP to the wheels rather than waiting for a turbo to kick in, so is it common sense to believe that the Supercharged one would run faster? because it has 300HP for "longer"? Just because it is a SC does not mean that it would make 300HP to the wheels and the turbo would not. They would both still be 300HP at the crack and have some loss through the drive train. hybridsol 12-04-2002, 01:57 AM Originally posted by Polygon All things being equal the SC would get the hole shot, but the turbo would pull ahead eventually. Self 12-04-2002, 04:56 AM Originally posted by Polygon All things being equal the SC would get the hole shot, but the turbo would pull ahead eventually. Why would the turbo car pull ahead later? If they both still have the same peak horsepower of 300, and assuming that they both have that peak hp at the same engine speeds(revs), then the turbo car would never pull ahead eventually. The SC'd car would take off quicker because it makes more boost sooner, and the turbo car, while catching up some would never even catch up to the SCd car, let alone pull ahead of it. Understand what I'm saying? Polygon 12-04-2002, 10:31 AM Yes, I do. The thing is that different engines react differently with a S/C or T/C setup and in most cases I have see the S/C win off the line and the T/C pull ahead in the end, and sometimes the two cars had the same engine. Then again I don't know all the variables, just an observation. Also if you will notice that S/C is used for drag racing and T/C is used to on the salt flats to set land speed records, once again, just an observation. SleeperCivic 01-26-2003, 06:13 PM I think the S/C would win. It would peak to the 300hp before the turo, all things being equal, equal launch times and such. The S/C would get through the 60' faster. I've seen cars lose to drivers making less HP that could get through the 60' faster. Self 01-26-2003, 10:31 PM Please try and refrain from dragging posts nearly 2 months old up from there depths:rolleyes: SleeperCivic 01-27-2003, 07:23 AM Why? It wasn't locked... You did the same thing when you first got on this board to get your posts up...... Self 01-27-2003, 08:37 AM No I didn't...And that's most DEFINITELY NOT what this forum is about. It's NOT about getting your posts up. When I first joined, 3 years ago, I didn't go around whorring multi-month old threads just so I could get my post count up. Polygon 01-27-2003, 12:11 PM Originally posted by SleeperCivic Why? It wasn't locked... You did the same thing when you first got on this board to get your posts up...... Also being here isn't about getting your post count up. Post counts don't earn any respect around here, it is all about what you type, not how much you type. SleeperCivic 01-27-2003, 08:58 PM Dude, I didn't say that's what I'm doing. The post is still open and I had a comment to make. If you've got a problem with that, go moderate at another forum and quit singling me out. Thank you. Self 01-27-2003, 11:43 PM I'm not singling you out. I say something to everyone who needs something said to them. I'm just advising you that when you see a post months and months old, don't drag it back up to post outdated information that is at this point irrelevant at best. And I think that if you have a problem with my moderating...YOU can go post somewhere else. Thank you. And if you have a personal problem with me, or with my moderation, or with my so-called singling you out, PM me:) P.S. And I quote "You did the same thing when you first got on this board to get your posts up......" So don't tell me you didn't drag this thread up from the abyss just to raise your post count. SleeperCivic 01-27-2003, 11:53 PM I didn't, you've been here a month longer than me and look at the post difference. BIG difference, so obviously I'm not a post whore. Month longer?? I'VE BEEN A MEMBER FOR THREE YEARS. Over a year longer. I was an original member when this site was purehonda.com But regaurdless, I average under 4 posts per day, hardly whorring. You just don't frequent the boards very often obviously. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
