Clutch adjustment on '04 4x4 4.7Ljdmccright 10-30-2007, 08:58 AM I've been a member of AF for a while, but under another vehicle. Traded the ol' Jimmy in for a '04 Quad Cab 4x4 with 4.7L and 5-spd manual tranny, abt 46k miles. I noticed that the clutch won't quite completely disengage even when the pedal is pressed ALL the way to the floor. I read that it is a sealed hydraulic clutch, but are there any adjustments that can be done to allow full disengagement? On a related note, I've been looking for a short-throw shifter for this truck. Perhaps a shifter kit from a Ram is compatible, too? I'm unfamiliar with Dodge and the interchangeability of parts, so if anyone has any info, please let me know. If you got some free movement in the pedal there should be an adjustment under the dash jdmccright 10-31-2007, 11:17 AM I don't know how to check if there is air in the system. I cannot discern any "play" or looseness in the pedal. But what I have noticed is that there is a definite lag between me letting off the gas pedal and the engine RPMs dropping. If I depress the clutch too quickly after letting up on the accelerator, the RPMs will rise and then fall. If I wait longer, abt a second, the RPM rise is reduced or eliminated. Of course, doing this results in a not-so-smooth shift. But quick shifting almost always results in a missed gear shift or overrevving. I have also noticed that when I am stopped at a red light with the truck in neutral and clutch engaged (not depressed), the gearset takes some time to spin down when I depress the clutch and almost always will not go into 1st gear smoothly. I hope this added info helps...sure like my new truck otherwise! jdmccright 11-09-2007, 10:39 AM I can now report that there is some play in the pedal...partially due to the plastic retainer that connects the pedal to the piston being worn, and also from some play in the piston itself, abt 1/4". All this results in ~1" of play before I feel any real resistance. But the gearsets still continue to turn when the clutch is all the way to the floor and I cannot see any means of adjustment.
