I accidentally hooked up by battery backwards on my 1978 CJ5. Smoke came up from jest below the selonoid. My battery won't hold a charge, but will run if I jump it and let it charge up. Do I need to replace my starter, alternator and selonoid? What components will my screw up affect?:banghead:

If the battery won't hold a charge, I'd replace that first.

Then, locate the area of wiring where the smoke came from, and replace the wires or parts that were affected, including the solenoid.

(The old joke goes something like, "they put the smoke in the wires at the factory, and if you let it out you have to replace the wires" :banghead: )

Then you may want to test for continuity in the circuits that were activated when it was in backwards.
