Hi members,my first post.
Car runs cool, never overheated but the last two weeks i had to add some coolent to the radator.Cannot find any leaks. After driving around one day,I restarted the car and there was a loud noise, and a puff of white smoke from the tail pipe.Drove home 10miles no problem shut the car off. After about 1 hr.tried to restart but nothing.Pulled out the starter, and found that the front snout on the starter housing had broken off.Marked the flywheel and using a large screwdriver rotated the flywheel to check the teeth.Found no broken teeth.Replaced with a new starter,First crank broke the front snout housing again.Any hints from anyone.
Thank you
sarge

Welcome to AF. Engine is locked up, pull the plugs check crank it over see if coolant comes out of the plug holes, you most likely have the common issue of coolant entering the engine from the failed upper intake plenum, careful here you can bend a connecting rod and now the oil is contaminated, which can damage the bearings.

Get that oil out of there ASAP.

It does sound like an UIM failure. Check the plugs as mentioned to see if youve got coolant in one or more cylinders. The repair isnt too bad. You just need to get a new UIM and gaskets, and I would highly recommend replacing the LIM gaskets while youre in there, as they are prone to failure as well.

But it does sound like your engine is locked up from coolant being in the cylinders (it wont compress).

Have you determined what your problem was? I don't think it is water in your intake. If that were the case you would have constant white smoke (steam). I had my starter do the same thing. I think your loud noise and puff of smoke was a "back-fire" and that possibly the ECM is going bad. Are you having any problems with gages or the tachometer or idiot lights? On mine the gas and temp gage and tach do not work, the Check Vehicle Soon and Low water lights are on. When I read the codes it tells me "NO LINK". I have ordered a new ECM.
