After market, or OEM Radiator Replacement?

Searched through a bunch of threads, combed through a bunch of parts on-line stores (and dealers) and I am left with this....
1. Money is tight
2. Top tank seal on my 2000 GS-R radiator is splitting - slowly, and it's already got sealant going - but splitting.
3. The car is a rare one, and 95% JDM - everything so far has been genuine Acura parts replacement... see where we're goin?

Do I...
...save some bucks and fix the rad. with an after market one for under $200?
or
... spend the coin and starve to buy the near $400 Acura part?

It needs fixed, and fatter times are ahead if the purest in me gets antsy.

Should I go aftermarket, what experiences have you all had with any aftermarket rads. out there? Bare in mind, I drive this thing like I stole it and live in the Baltimore/D.C. area - frequent stop and go traffic.

I dont know what radiator you need but i have an OEM GSR radiator if that would work for you. Its from my car...i run a half length for space issues. Its a full length single core and only has 54k miles on it. It does look a little dinged up in the pics but it worked fine when pulled...let me know if you want/need it

You gotta pay to play.... if you want it to stay "JDM" get OEM... if you dont care, get an aftermarket one...

Oh I care about keeping it as JDM as possible. Don't get me wrong. I just care more about preventing a blown head gasket and well over a grand in machine work and years of related problems. If most aftermarket rads are sh*t, then I'll just keep pumping in coolant and taking it easy on the drives until I can't get the scratch together for the OEM replacement. If the afters are decent, then I'll plop one in for the time being and replace it with OEM at a more economically responsible time.

I'll post some pics this afternoon. I still have the window sticker too, I'll get a pic of that up.

have you tryed sealing it with a 2 part epoxy until you get a replacement? it may still leak a bit, but not nearly as bad... I have a PWR aluminum racing raditaor... i love it... WAY more cooling than i need, but oh well... i dont worry about over heating anymore...

I put some aluma-seal in there and some gasket seal silicon over the seal that popped. Here are some pics et. al.

hmm... well.... that looks to be a very USDM car you have there... yes the parts may have been made in japan... but they were made for a USDM market... hence not the stereotypical "JDM" (RHD, B18C engine instead of the b18c1) so i wouldnt worry about buyin after market.... it wont hurt the value of the car any

well, technically, you were right... it is "JDM" because the parts came from japan... but when you said JDM.. i thought you imported a japanese car from japan and had all the goodies like RHD a more powerful engine... diff front end.. no worries though.. i would just get an aftermarket one... or a performance one.. i usually upgrade whenever something breaks

and did you try JB Weld? make sure the rad is dry and smear some of that on it and it shouldnt leak

and youre welcome, i just ate chinese food, so im in a good mood... and my cams and dual valve springs came in today.. so good day so far

wow...its been so long since ive seen a stock engine bay on a GSR...i remember when my GSR was "fresh"

Just buy an aftermarket one. If you want to be all jdm then get a mugen, buddy club, j's racing, or spoon sports radiator cap, and a spoon sports radiator stay. But honestly, just worry about how your car runs instead of worrying about minor things.

that's all I am worried about is keeping the car up and running well, but, like most of us, I have that car ocd. Acura priced me a $365, crazy people. I threw some epoxy on there the other day, but the whole top tank seam is split at this point- no sense continuing to smear stuff all over it. I'm keeping it in the lot until I get the replacement. Thank God for living with your girlfriend / co-worker.:iceslolan

365 damn you can get a fluidyne or koyo for that. I got a half size proliant aluminam rad. for my civic for like $150. knocked my temps down pretty well.
