Our lovely '96 has 205,000 and seems to be going strong but I'm just hoping for Jeep owners advice on how best to treat an older, rusty Jeep as it starts getting cold (DC area, so it's not sub-zero cold)

Cold weather advice anyone?

Thanks.

Change the differnetial fluids (front and rear) to synthetic!! Thats big one, most overlooked IMHO.

You have quadratrac or selectrac? Either way you will want to change the transfer case fluid to ATF+4. Its an easy change. You can see two drain plugs on the transfer case: One on top is fill hole, one on bottom is drain hole. Drain it all out, then top it off till oil starts to come out of top hole.

Changing the diff fluid is pretty easy too, if you dont mind the mess.

Basically, I recommend you get a full drivetrain checkup: Grease all fittings, change fluids, etc Check tires, antifreeze flush and fill, oil change (synthetic 5w30)

well that sounds like regular maintainance to me, and no don't fill the transfer until fluid comes out fill to the point to where ur pinky finger can just feel it it the fill hole. overfilling is bad.
