Partsmsdz 10-13-2007, 12:17 AM Ok, I am planning on redoing the front of my JGC. I have the DW problem but is minor but also know my wheel bearing is coming out as well and possibly the cv axle all on the driver side. I plan on starting with the cv axle, wheel bearing on driver side and then the passenger side. Eventually all bushing, ball joints and tie rod ends IF needed. I do have some slack in my tie rod ends though but as said they will come after the other stuff first. My question is...."Where is a good, reliable place to buy new parts"? I have checked Advance Auto Parts, Napa, and Autozone of course and a few other well known stores but I seen a few places on the internet that beat their prices and just wondering where most of you guys buy your parts from. I mean I seen a place the hub assembly is like $69 and $12 shipping which I think isn't to bad considering Advances $118 price tag. I was thinking possibly Ebay but only rely on the Ebay stores and not individuals when it comes to important parts. What I see there isn't to bad on prices but thought maybe some of you may know better places for price and quality plus I hate getting stuff off Ebay sometimes, hard to contact the seller at times for info or replacements/refunds. dksob81 10-13-2007, 08:36 PM I get alot of parts from my local HOVIS Auto Parts, but thats because they carry a good product brand names of MOOG, NATIONAL HUB, FEDERATED, etc... But when I need a part in a hurry I usually shop at ADVANCE AUTO PARTS, I tend to stay away from AUTOZONE. For your balljoints and steering components I would stick with MOOG Brand. For ytour wheel bearings - NATIONAL HUB ASSEMBLY or TIMKEN brands. For your bushings - I guess all bushings are basically the same, but would recommend EUROTHANE bushings over stock rubber (and you can find these at autozone ENERGY SUSPENSION) msdz 10-13-2007, 09:52 PM What I find funny is people here where I live run down Advance Auto Parts so badly but then when something happens and they need a part they go running there before anywhere else. Advance has better prices over the other local auto parts stores. I don't have an Autozone locally just Advance Auto and NAPA and one little itty bitty independant parts store that mainly deals with welding supplies rather than auto parts, VERY small town I live in. It is usually better for me to find my stuff on the internet and order it unless it is something I need in a hurry. I have bought just a couple things from Ebay for my jeep but not any major components. Afraid those good looking prices might actually be bad quality items that won't last no time at all. Still thinking about getting the wheel hub assembly from one of the stores on there, Wheel Bearings Direct is the name of the Ebay store, if anybody may have had dealings with them let me know your outcome and quality of product you got. They have a lot of good reviews. Edit... This is the maufacturers web site of the product of the Ebay seller. Sunds and looks reliable to me. Hope I step on no toes but AMERICAN MADE, you know they have to decent. http://www.wheelbearingsinc.com/ HanibalTheCannibal 10-15-2007, 08:17 AM DO NOT get Timken bearings, get the BCA bearings. Thats probably why there is some difference in price. dksob81 10-15-2007, 10:36 PM DO NOT get Timken bearings, get the BCA bearings. Thats probably why there is some difference in price. Whats wrong with TIMKEN BEARINGS? HanibalTheCannibal 10-16-2007, 07:52 AM From years of changing bearings on my 1977 ford, 1979 oldsmobile, and 20 or more other vehicles, and from the advice of a lifelong mechanic in the family: Timken bearings are imported, and made from inferior steel (softer?) while BCA bearings (Made in the USA) are made from higher grade steel and to closer tolerances than timken. I have had timken bearings "crack" and many other problems. BCA are always higher priced though. This is just my opinion from my experience. I would always buy BCA if you can. BCA: Bearing Corporation of America Timken: ???? Japan? dksob81 10-16-2007, 06:58 PM Well I cannot argue with that, I have never had a problem with them, but you do know your jeep has TIMKEN bearings in it from the factory, all the differential carrier and Pinion Bearing are made by timken. HanibalTheCannibal 10-16-2007, 09:37 PM :(Thats why the bearings already need replacing :( I have 65,600 miles on a 1994 jeep grand cherokee that needs new bearings. My 2001 silverado needed new bearings at 45,000 miles. I used BCA of course. They dont make em like they used too! msdz 10-16-2007, 09:38 PM Any thoughts about the manufacturer I put a link up on? Are they good bearings? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
