My daughter bought a 2002 Sportage this Summer and of course did not check for heat. Now, 40 degree nights, she found out! What could I be looking at? I automatically think heater coil, fan blows, themostat is turning, checking for connections in the morning. Is there a heater fuse, relay?

All help is greatly appreciately.

Fan blows you say, so electrics are OK. ALl the rest is mechanics: check if diverter flap is connected..the cable that links directly the temp lever to the flap. ALso....just check if hoses are still connected from the engine to the heater core: blown cores are common and bypassing it might have been a quick summer solution.....come back with findings

I will check the cable. The bypass,, you are talking about pulling the two hoses going throught the firewall and connecting them directly? bypassing the core completely right?

Thanks for the help!

well yes, or disconnecting both hoses at engine and installing a loop instead...I'm suggesting that idea because that is what I did for my son's LADA NIVA, in his case, a dripping control valve just inside the car at core inlet to modulate heat...a quick go around the problem without solving it....:grinyes: he uses it in summer only....of course....
..the idea is to clear the rough basics first.....always time to go for the more acute problem... if exists...
