1989 B250 Dodge Ram Van 5.2L starting and not startingcccontre 10-12-2007, 06:11 PM 1989 Dodge Ram Van B-250 5.2L I have a 1989 Dodge Ram Van B-250 5.2 L. The van would start and then when I would reach my destination and the van would not start up right away. Finally after some time the van finally would not start at all. I replaced the ASD relay and the van was running great for about a week and a half before it started doing the same thing again. Finally I was moving the van to park and it died while I was driving it. I need help :banghead: ....would it need a new relay again, a new computer, O2 sensor, or could grounding of wires be the issue. I do have 2 amps, (2) 12 inch subwoofers, a capacitor for the sound system, and XM radio all hooked up in the van. I am also using an Optima Battery. Please help I don't think I can handle much more with this van but I do love it and would hate to have to get rid of it.:disappoin thanks in advance......:iceslolan alloro 10-13-2007, 10:21 AM Did you replace the ASD relay with a new one or a used one? cccontre 10-15-2007, 05:57 PM Did you replace the ASD relay with a new one or a used one? I had replaced it with a new one from Mopar. I purchased it at the Chrysler/Dodge Dealership. alloro 10-15-2007, 06:46 PM Either you got a bum relay or something in the ASD circuit is causing it to burn out. I'd first try another relay and if that doesn't solve it, you'll have to start testing the circuit. cccontre 10-18-2007, 05:40 PM Thank's for the advise. I actually have taken it to the Dodge Dealership and they can't figure it out. I will see if they can check the ASD circuit. I might just have them replace the ASD. Thanks for you help.....if it doesn't work you might hear back from me. MopedShop 11-13-2007, 11:53 AM Hi, I have a 1988 B250 5.2 with the exact same problem! Recently replaced the coil because it was leaking. fuel filter new, pump new. BTW, where is this ASD relay located? sneakybert 11-14-2007, 11:16 PM Try a new distributor pick - up coil . MopedShop 11-14-2007, 11:22 PM How many coils are there?? sneakybert 11-14-2007, 11:32 PM There is only one ignition coil . The distributor pick - up coil is separate it is located underneath the distributor cap . (replaces ignition points that older vehicles had ) MopedShop 11-15-2007, 06:02 PM ok but if I get spark sometimes would it be necessary to replace that coil.
