my cel just came on a couple days ago... i haven't tried to remove the egr system or mess with it in general.... i just want to fix it, i know it's egr related but i want to know what is causing this problem.... is it the egr valve itself that needs to be replaced???

It's possible it's the EGR itself getting stuck open or closed. Could be the vacuum hose to it fell off or is leaking. Could be the EGR ports in the manifold are clogged or the EGR pintle is clogged up.
If you don't have a scanner to command it to open and close, I would start by removing it and looking for clogs. If they're there, see if you can clean it up.
