99 JGC Noiseninpo23 10-08-2007, 10:13 AM Hi All, MY 99 JGC with a 4.0l engine, automatic trans, and 2WD with 66,000 miles and it is startiing to make 'tire' noise. When I driving from 40 to 80 mph, there is a low humming noise which sounds like it is coming from the front tires. I am think ing worn tires, they do not look bad and myabe they need to be rotated or bad wheel bearings. The sound is similar to those truck tires that are made for off-roading and when they drive on the pavement, they make that load, sounds those tires make (sorry for a poor decsription) but my sounds is quiter, you can here it more when the windows are up and the radio off. I lifted the front tires and grab the wheels at 9 o'clock and three o'clock positions and shock the wheel...no play. I am thinking to have the tires rotated, having the trans fluid change, diff fluid change or check the u-joints, any thoughts on this? Thanks, Ninpo gshep 10-20-2007, 09:26 PM Not sure if its the same noise I had on my 99 but I had to have the rear end gears replaced. The rear end was full of metal from the soft gears. jaz1314 10-21-2007, 09:08 AM Hi All, MY 99 JGC with a 4.0l engine, automatic trans, and 2WD with 66,000 miles and it is startiing to make 'tire' noise. Does it change when you put a slight load on it side to side while driving? Could be differential carrier bearing as well, check the oil in your diff and make sure you havent sprung a leak that has caused the level to drop too low. Unfortunately if it has gone that low, it may have done some damage already to the microfinish on the bearing races. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
