Hi there,

In todays Sunday Mirror here in the UK there is a strange little article located in the sports pages. It reads as follows: -

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Lewis Hamilton has done an amazing deal with team boss Ron Dennis and will be given a rare £2 million supercar FREE if he wins two world titles in three years.
The McLaren F1 LM prototype has pride of place at the teams £250m factory near Woking and is one of only six ever made.
"I just fell in love with it. The normal ones are worth about £1m, so the LM must be worth quite a bit more," said Hamilton.
"We've done a deal," said Dennis. "He has to win two of the next three championships to get it"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

What are your thoughts on this ?

Regards

Tim

 I think they should hold on to it. If they give it away, to me, it will lose some of its exclusivity, just my :2cents:.

He'll crash it first week he gets it! No! F1 Cars are fine to crash you got a million but an Lm is a whole different ball game.

I say Nay...

More reason to root for Alonso. Lewis is being gifted everything. Literally. Became the only McLaren driver to keep an original 1st place trophy when every other McLaren driver (including Senna) have theirs at the factory. Uses his teammates setup data. And now may get a free LM. Unbelievable. lol Just adopt him already, Ron.

Rumour only, Mclaren will never let it go - perhaps they'll loan it to him or give him a free drive, but nothing more

He shouldn't get this car! Doesn't he earn enough? Other people have to work many years to afford just a Porsche 911 and this kid gets a F1 LM for free?
That's sick.

It's alright, I'll win the next two of three DWC's, so they can give it to me instead, and then I'll give you all rides.....for a small fee.

I was giving this some more thought and came up with two different ideas.

One - this isn't much different than giving Lewis a $4M cash bonus and then allowing him to buy the car. I don't know what a typical bonus would be like in the Formula One world for that kind of success, but it doesn't seem all that outlandish. Also, the relative cost to McLaren would be less than the value of the car in today's money, as they didn't spend that much making it and it was perceived they had no plan to sell it. You could claim they are losing money by not selling it outright, but not if they would have had to give Lewis the money in cash instead.

Two - A logical point of contradiction I came up with on this story relates to Mercedes Benz' top F1 driver being given a car to drive with a BMW engine. :screwy: One would think they would not have a favorable opinion of something like that, but maybe I am making more of it than I should. :dunno:

Either way, that car deserves to be used more than it currently is and if Lewis plans to use it and show it off then I am all for him having it. For the record, I would have a issue if they wanted to give him the LeMans winning #01R as there's really nothing he could do in my mind to "earn" that.

^^I think Ron Dennis and Lewis will split from McLaren and just go under their customer car division of Prodrive. Not sure what powerplant they would be using. Not BMW for sure, but possibly not Mercedes either. Mercedes may just take over all of McLaren and use the MB name alone instead of McLaren Mercedes.

***SPOILER***

Kimi won the championship today and Lewis finished 2nd in the points. WOOHOO! That means LH would have to win the next two WDCs to get that LM. For now, XP1 LM is staying in McLaren's hands for at least 2 years. :D

^^ or maybe not, perhaps just next years WDC if the appeal succeeds (Don't hold your breath though.........)
