'96 honda civic gas gauge stuck on full????BDcambr 10-05-2007, 04:24 AM Ok so i just bought my civic that has 212k miles on it...you wouldn't know it driving it...But my question is my gas gauge is stuck on FULL....I have a buddy that says his car which has about 177k miles has started getting stuck on full also but he hits his dash and it starts working again...Well i've heard a few ppl say that the grounds back at the fuel pump go bad...Does anyone know what i need to look for or know how to fix this problem....And forgot to tell you that i have allready swapped out the fuel pump with a parts car that i had and the gauge still didn't work....Thanks in advance for any info..... sircanegiem 12-03-2007, 04:08 AM I don't know too much about this besides that my '99 EX has the same problem: sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't... but it's stuck on full almost all the time. When I was taking out the back seats to install 6x9" speakers in the back, I noticed there was a cap beneath the back seats, that I believe is unscrewed to access the part that measures the gas inside the tank. I could be wrong, but I think what's inside of there is what needs to be replaced - either way, the part is inside the gas tank, and (I think!) floats on the surface of the gas inside to measure it. By the way, this problem is usually avoided if you don't leave your car below half a tank of gas for a very long time. The reason mine doesn't work is because before I bought it, it sat in a lot from a front end collision for a few years, and the gas tank wasn't filled while it sat. That's all the more that I can help with this one! BDcambr 12-03-2007, 04:23 AM Thanks for your reply....And i should have noted in my first post that i have allready switched out the part your talking about with another one that i know was working...And it still didn't fix my problem...Few ppl have said to check the ground back at the tank...but again i've checked and i really didn't find a obvious ground wire or any wire for that matter that would be creating the problem...I've just gotten used to just watching my tripometer and my low fuel light does still work also....Its just a little annoying that the gauge doesn't work...and plus wanted to try to get it fixed incase i decided to sell the car down the road....again thanks for your input... sircanegiem 12-03-2007, 04:47 AM Yeah, I haven't bothered fixing mine, either. I just fill the tank every 250 miles or so on the trip odometer and reset it after each fill. But who would actually want to re-sell their Civic?! ;) BDcambr 12-03-2007, 05:48 AM Ow if i sell this one...it will only get replaced by another one...i've had quite a few of them...lol BDcambr 02-12-2008, 08:19 AM Its been awhile since posting on here...Just thought i'd throw out there that i switched out my fuel gauge for another one form a buddy's car and it worked fine...so my problem was all in my gauge... vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
