There's a good chance im gonna buy a '96-'98 Mustang GT here fairly soon, and I'm wondering what mods i should start out with.. besides a CAI, ill prob do that first, but im new to non-boosted modding, so just wondering. Thanks.

You would do better to step up to a '99 or newer GT. The 96-98 GT's are down on hp considerably. Get a 99 GT and add exhaust, gears, cia (if you must, you wont be able to tell a difference). Also I would suggest underdrive pullies. Then start adding suspension mods, then get into some motor work. If you get a 5spd car get a short throw shifter.

Yea I would love to get a 99 or newer, but i only have about $4-5K to work with, and those are just a little out of the price range.. I want the 4.6 though, so thats why im gonna go with the 96-98. I have a '97 grand prix gtp now, and ive decided its really time for a v8.. I do plan on going with the short throw shifter though, i hear its pretty awesome.

Take it from experience and save your money until you find the better car in your price range. Otherwise you will end up modifying a lesser car just to catch up with the better car. With the money you will spend in modifying the '96-'98 You could buy a 99 GT.

Listen to 351..I spent ALOT of money modding an 02GT with a million bolt ons including a supercharger and still only had 400rwhp. I stepped up to an 04 Cobra and now have 600rwhp. If you want to get it till you can afford a better platform then just get CAI(non metal), catback, midpipe, springs, gears and thats about it. Anything more is really just a waste. Look around and find a Cobra about the same year, much better-Shane

If you could find a '96 Cobra in good shape that would be a sweet project.

under drive pullies--70MM T/B---shorties-X pipe-Magnapack cat back--3:73 gears on stick-4:10 on auto with shift kit--make a good daily driver and get speed and good gas mileage when just cruising. And that sweet Mustang V8 sound:evillol:
