When I try to pull off the crank pully it moves away from the engine and so does the crank gear. They are as one.
Any suggestions on how to seperate the two? I am in the process of changing the water pump and timing belt, idlers and tensioners - poss any leaky seals. I am stalled.
Help.

I've tried to seperate with a thin putty knife, rubber mallet. I don't want to do any damage to the gear - pully or shaft. I had an idea yesterday and that is to check everything one last time for 1 cyl to tdc and cut the belt and pull both off connected and try to seperate once I have it off. That's probably the only way I can think of.
I just want to make sure the timing is on. I read in the book that after you have it assembled you can manually turn the engine and try to see if it moves freely to make sure the valves aren't binding. I know this is a touchy thing - any other suggestions on that proceedure would be appreciated.
