my 1980 475 horsepower despertly needs a paintjob. I think someone started it but never finished, cuz theres primer on it. But anyways scraping the paint off with a sander sounds pretty easy to do and I was wondering if an ordinary person without any experince of body work/painting cars could do it?

plus i've heard alot of bad things about using chemicals to strip the paint? would you like to comment?

A dual-action sander would work fine (uses a compressor). Makes quick work of the job. You can find them at lowes/home depot along with the stick on sand paper.

i had a 93 honda civic a couple of years ago and me and the pals just got out there and used eletric sanders and went two work took us about 3 1/2 hours and it was a job well done. not hard at all you see the paints then you dont.

the only bad thing about using the DA is if you are inexperienced with it you can make the paint uneven and then when you paint you will see waves in the body. I would practice on a few junkyard fenders first just to get the hang of it
