Trading up to a newer model?

I have been thinking of trading up from my '94 model JGC Limited to a newer model. Maybe somewhere in the 99-01 models not sure all depending on price and other factors.
Questions I wanted to ask about are:
What type of fuel economy does the 4.7L get?
How much horsepower does the 4.7L have compared to the 5.2L?
Do the 4.7L have more or less troubles than the 5.2L?

These are some of the questions I have. I am getting about 26-27MPG right now with my JGC on the highway and anywhere from 14-17MPG town driving. I of course would like to get about the same economy if I trade up. The JGC I have ATM has some issues like the wheel bearing coming out and the front end needs some parts cause I am just starting to get some death wobble in the front but isn't bad YET. I am thinking of just dumping some money into fixing all the little problems I can think of with this jeep instead of getting another one which may have more problems.
Was looking at one on a used car lot(not sure of year but looked like a '99 model) and thought I could trade in and pay about $1000 more for it, they are not asking much for it which also makes me skeptical about getting it OR sink that $1000 into this one.

Oh, I also have a hesitation in my jeep when I go to give it gas but not all the time. Still wonder what could be causing that.... any clues? I have cleaned the throttle body and air filter. All looks ok. Was thinking it was the TPS or maybe the air charge sensor, the one on the intake manifold? Oh, no codes of course. I still think I can do just about all I need to do to my jeep and get it in A-1 shape for the $1K. I really do not think I could find another jeep to get fuel economy as good as this one gets by what I have read on these forums, most people make them out to be gas hogs.
Most of the stuff that I need done is minor though. Another thing, I do not like the looks of the '04 and newer models.

ohh hell yeah the '04+ suuuuck....i think it would be a great...get a '99 or '00 for a couple reasons, from what ive read, those two years were very reliable and had no major recals besides a seatbelt problem and are known to have less problems all together than ANY other years, after those two years, they started putting chrome accents on the front grille and people way over price them because of their looks, i just bought a '99 limited w/ 165k+ miles and it runs like a champ, i get 15.8 mpg city tho and over 23+ hwy, the 4.7l is way more efficient, and added atleast 15+ hp than the 5.2 but a little less torque but it still halls ass i love it, it rides smooth, its almost as luxurious as a cadalac and the Quadra-Drive system is epic, theres nothing else in that market that competes, i think its worth it personally, ive seen some smookin deals on craigslist on '99's lately you should really check taht out be sure to get the Quardra-Drive system tho for sure goodluck

LOL, I think you should be checking for some issues on your jeep getting 10MPG!!! I would have gotten rid of my jeep and never considered on getting another one if I only got that type of fuel economy. I have to wait for a couple of months before I actually make a decision but just wanted the heads up. I also am wanting another Limited. Most I have seen are full time four wheel drive and that is definitely what I want for my wife, just to drive and go and no big worries if she needs to put it in or not. Afraid she would need it and not use it and end up over one of the mountains here in WV.

Oh, a friend of mine has a '98 model that has the 5.9L in it and he actually gets better than me on the highway but not in town. The thing has all kinds of power!!! He said he is getting almost 30MPG but about 12MPG city.

I've got a 99' I'm thinkin' to get rid of hopefully soon, it's a Grand Cherokee Larado 4.0 L6 and I get 13 City, 14 Highway, so I'm guessin' a V8 4.7 wouldn't do any better lol, mine's loaded and I'm lookin' for around 5k but problem is title reads not actual mileage.

I had worked for an auto auction and drove a lot of different vehicles. The jeeps I have drove that had the 6 cylinders always got poor gas mileage compared to the V8's, although most vehicles I had drove got better gas mileage if they had a V8 in them. Living in WV driving up these hills it take a lot for a 4 or 6 cylinder to keep a steady speed, they need to work harder. Wife also worked at the same place and she drove a Jeep Wrangler with the 4 cylinder in it and the one mountain that will test a vehicle she could only top it at 35MPH, lol. The mountain has a 9% grade and is 13 miles from bottom to top. Also see a lot of trator trailer accidents there due to the hairpin curve at the bottom of the hill. I walked away from her in a 15 passenger Dodge van, the dealer thought something was wrong with the Wrangler and spent about $2000 trying to find out why we left it on the side of the road. We ended up telling him it didn't have power to keep up with the rest of the drivers so we left it. He was frustrated needless to say.
I am going to go look at that '99 model tomorrow and see what all is wrong with it, must be somethig for it to be only $3000.

Well I have the 98 5.9Limited, lots of power lots of gas...lol I get 10.5 MPG average (mostly City Driving) but I cannot say it's all the engine, because my 94 had a 5.2L and I only averaged 10.8 mpg in it - and I drive with a really light foot.

I know it's been a while but anyway I checked out that '99 model JGC Limited and it needed more work than the JGC I have now. I was browsing around on Ebay though and seen quite and fe decent deals on some Durango's. Anybody here have opinions on Durango's. Saw a nice 2000 model fairly cheap, what draws my attention to them is the third row seat option that some of them have. Was thinking they have same basic set up as most jeeps with engines and trannys. Jeeps IMO still have better options than the Durango's I seen but price wise Durango's are going a little cheaper it seems. The one on Ebay is fairly close to me, about 250 miles. Worth driving if it is a good vehicle, I just would like some info on how reliable they are. I will also post in the Durango section to see what replies I may get.

Decided I am keeping my jeep and fix all the little issues I have. Afraid I will get something a lot worse. My worse issue is starting to get DW and need to replace the hub assembly o driver side and axle. Also I have the Rear Lamp Failure in the VIC which I am sure is the main ground just I can't locate it ATM plus I haven't really spent time looking. Any quick help on finding the main ground in the passenger side kick panel area would be nice...where it runs from there I mean. I have a wiring diagram that shows all grounds running over to that area anyway.
