Alternator Belt too tight?tony4x4nc 09-25-2007, 03:03 PM I'm trying to figure out if my belt is to loose or tight or if my alternator is possibly on it's way out the door? Sometimes when I start the Goblin she squels like a dieing pig. I can rev it up to about 3500-4000 and it goes away. While it it screaming the voltage drops down to 12 or right below like the truck is running off just the battery. I have tried playing with the adjustments and can't seem to get it right. i read on a few of the forums here that the Rodeo like there belts tight. Do i need to start looking for a new alternator? FL 3.2L 09-25-2007, 03:07 PM I'd guess you aren't tight enough, but with this truck the line between tight enough and too tight seems very fine. If the voltage is good when the squealing stops, I'd say it's your belt. They are more prone to squealing as they age, so if you have >30K, change it. tony4x4nc 09-25-2007, 04:03 PM All the belts were changed March with timing belt job.
