I have an 88 cherokee with a 4.0 inline six, i have to install 5 exhust bolts on the bottom of the exhaust/intake manifold. Is it even friggin possible?!? i cannot reach up there to save my life. anyone know how to get there without 4 extra elbows. thnx

I had similar issues when I put on my header. I figured i had a few choices...

1- pull the engine

2- find someone with smaller hands

3- think of, then buy/make the tool to do it

I actually managed to get my arm wedged in far enough to get it done but would have been a lot better off with a r.e.a.l.l.y long wrench, possibly heated and bent to fit just right up in there.

I've still got a leak and have to do them again. God, I'm not looking forward to it.

How did you get the old ones out? Did you remove the heat shield from the intake manifold?

My exh manifold is cracked and I'm going to take care of it in a few weeks while I'm out on some vacation time.

Personally, I took out everything I could just to make room for me to get in there... Taking the old one out- 45mins. New one back in- 4 1/2 hours... lol

On my 92 when i pulled the manifold off and put it back on all i did was just remove the air filter box and the top tube running to the intake manifold. Doing that gives enough room to get under the manifold where you need to be.
