99' Grand Am Fuel Gauge

I dunno if this is a common problem with these cars, but my gas gauge kinda just swings back and forth, and says its 1/2 full, when in truth it is maybe 1/8 full. Its not always the same, the only time it is real accurate is when its obviously completely full after fill up.

But anyways, if anyone can help me out, it would be much appreciated, and an estimated cost of a fix if you guys have one.

Welcome to AF.

Yes it is typical in the 99-00 models of GM n bodies.

Its the level float in the tank, so the tank has to be dropped to change it.
