Adjusting Idle screw on '89Leo Renard 09-17-2007, 06:46 PM Hello again, I've just bought this car for extremely cheap, but it runs very well (when driving, at least). I'm wondering if there's something I need to do before I adjust the idle screw on my '89 Accord? Can I do this while the car is running so I can constantly check the RPM? It currently idles at around 400 RPM (suprisingly, without stalling). I just don't want to kill my car while doing this. Please understand that I have almost no experience when it comes to doing maintenance on cars. Thanks! 2001jettavr6 09-17-2007, 07:56 PM yes you can adjust it while its on, thats usually when most people do it. I would look into it though because they are supposed to be set at a certain idle speed. You should make sure something else isnt causing the low idle like a vacuum leak or something to that nature before you mess with the idle screw. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
