Replacing power window regulator?

Hi all:
My drivers side power window stopped working on my 2001 Yukon. After taking apart my door panel and getting to the power window motor, it seems as if the cable has frayed and jammed itself inside the motor and has also broke a little further down. I took the motor out and was able to remove the frayed and broken cable now the motor seems to be working fine. Aparently I cannot just get another cable to replace the broken one, I need to get the whole regulator assembly. Has anyone made this repair before? I have not but am pretty mechanically inclined. If anyone has instructions or tips that will make this go smooth I would appreciate it. My Chilton's manual says to remove the glass first. I am not sure how to do that either. Thanks.
