Mmmk, last night I was driving around(1:07am) and wanted to go to 7-11 which it not even a block from my house. I get what I want pull out to leave and I am driving down my street when a cop pulls me over! I'm like HOLY MOLY..what the heck did I do. I never got pulled over before so I do start to panic somewhat. The officer comes to my door and flashes his little flashlight in my face and asks me for my lis.& reg, I give him both..so now I am sitting in my car 5 house from my own house. Finially he comes back 20 minutes later and gives me back my stuff and hands me this little yellow slip. He says that my "sidermarkers are damaged and need to be repaired" I say..but officer they are in working condition because ..well they are! He replies back " Well technically your lights are suppose to be amber, yours are green and it is disturbing people." I am like Umm..okay.And he tells me to repiar them yadda ydadda...and then 6 other cop cars I swear to GOD,pop out from nowhere! I'm like what the hell man..where did they come from and there shining the lights on my car and face and basically hanging out of their windows. Then they drive away and the cop says "Have a great night! My turn signals next to my headlights are green, they have been like that for almost a month now. Iv'e parked next to cops, stopped at red lights next to cops and none of them have ever pulled me over before. So yeah I am a tad bit upset. And to top this off every friday right up the street there is a Car Show for all kinds of cars and they NEVER get pulled over. I mean there cars are hopping, flashing, strobe lights are going off...everything you can think of. So I am wondering, was I just at the wrong place at the wrong time?? Was the cop just bored?! I had to go to the police station today to get the repiar slip signed and then to the police at the MVA and get it stamped. It all seems like a waste of time, money and MY gas. AND now...I am debating If I should put my lights back on(green ones) because this guy at Advanced Auto Parts said " Just change them to the amber lights,do what you have to and when it's done just put your lights back in..they can't give you a ticket only repair slips". *I had told him what happend,he helpd me find the amber lights and I just had the urge to tell someone else...lol. So yeah..I wanted to tell you guys my little story so you can let me know what you think AND so that you will be cautious about changing your lights.

-thanks for reading.

i had green lights in my licence plate my corner lights and my bumper lights for 9 months and passed cops, stoped at stop lights where they saw them, and my ex girl friends dad was a cop and no one ever said anything. but then all of the sudden i get pulled over 2 times in a week about a month ago for having green lights. i just got warnings and no paper work but i ended up taking the licence plate one and the corner lights out and replaced them with clear ones just cuz i got tired of getting pulled over. maybe all the cops got togeather and decided to pull people over for senseless things, or maybe they just need to make there quota. lol

I don't know whats wrong with em, I like having my green lights on my car and I want to put them back on. I was wondering,do you think they would give me a ticket or can a ticket even be given for something like this? Or will they just keep giving me those little repair slips..I asked the police at the station and they said that they are not serious slips, they do not go on your record or anything like that. Let me know what ya think.

cops target people at night with suped up cars. mostly to just do sobriety checks and find some reason for pulling you over. my guess is that he just saw ur green lights, used that as an excuse and since u werent drinking, gave u a slip to have them fixed. "probable cause" is what they call it and if they were wrong, then they find some other reason.

Since you know it's illegal, make sure not to bitch about it next time you get pulled over.

It might seem like a stupid law (half of them are), but it's a law. I'm not saying I like police pulling people over for stupid things, but if you keep the green ones in they might not only give you crap for it next time, but they might see that you keep having the same offense and hit you with a fine.

I did get pulled over by a state trooper, they are strict as hell... yelled at me for my tint, and had my car "stored" at the towing place until I could prove that my car was mine... my VIN number on the door didnt match the public VIN number, and worst then that... my registration didn't show either VIN..... lol but it showed the license plate... So long story short, the BMV messed up my regristration and had to fix it, then I showed it to him and got my car back.... and then he told me to take my tint off the front sides...ass hole lol

God! What a pecker head. I think I would be crying If they took my car away. I mean, don't they make enough money as it is. I bet you their kids have sporty little cars and they never say anything to them..lol. I'm sorry but I hate cops, they just overuse there power for the stupidest little things when they could actually be doing something GOOD with it.:disappoin

Wow, just wow! You blame the cops when YOU break the laws!!! Just amazing! And Derk, the dmv messed up your registration, not the police officer. You are blaming the wrong person. Police officers have jobs to do just like everyone else. Some of you are bitching because you got pulled over, and you didn't even get a ticket! It could have been worse, so stop whinning! And no Lilsweets, cops don't make much at all. And you say that cops are abusing their powers and should be doing something good with it huh? Well last time I checked, upholding the LAWS is a good thing. Don't break them and you won't be inconvienced.

yeah no shit, what are you gonna do next time someones breaking into your house? or steals your car? what are you gonna do? call a criminal?

believe it or not they were keeping you safe, if they pulled you over at that time of night for that piss poor reason, they just wanted to check and make sure you werent drunk, which is totally ok with me,
wouldnt you want the cops to do everything they can to get a drunk driver off the street? (ive been hit by a drunk driver, check it out)http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=476638&highlight=drunk+drivers

with those lights you're just giving them a reason to be able to pull you over, that doesnt mean they're always gonna do it, it just means they can, and if they wanna single you out from everyone else, good, let them, they can, if you want them to stop, just take away their reason, then they cant pull you over anymore, its really not that hard to figure out

01Cavy,shut your piehole. Noone wants to hear you. Are you a cop or something? lol..no you probably are the kid of one better yet related. Who cares..the point were making is that cops pulled us over because of a stupid green bulb..Ooo that is really breaking the law right?! "upholding the laws" please..I live in BROOKYLN,they pull anyone over whenever they feel like it!They should pull over people speeding, why?Because they cause accidents and KILL people. They should pull over people on cell phones, they cause waaay more accidents then someone ever could with a green light bulb on their car. C'mon. It was a repair slip he gave me that said my lights are NON-FUNCTIONING/BROKEN ! They work. Besides when I called the MVA in my area do you know what they told me?? A cop can issue a repair slip to anyone If he FEELS it is fit but If they were not Broken or Non-functioning they don't know why he gave me the slip. Umm,okay? Don't get me wrong there are good cops,my uncle is on the force he's been on it for over 23 years. When I told him about it he said it was the cop trying to make his quota so that he could go home. And you say we did not get a ticket, I had to pay a fee to take my car to get it inspected by a Cop @ the station and have him sign his name. Then to the MVA to pay another fee to get the sh*t signed and stamped.

Yes I am a cop! You say no one wants to hear me? No one wants you hear you crying because you got pulled over FOR BREAKING THE LAW!!! Regardless of how pety it is, you are still breaking the law! Yeah maybe they have quotas in brooklyn and maybe the officer was trying to make his quota, but guess what, he wouldn't have pulled you over if your green bulbs weren't illegal. Go ahead and put your green bulbs back in, it's only a matter of time before you are hit with another repair slip. Some kids have to learn the hard way.

Nooo, you just wanted to see what someone said about a cop so you could take up for them.VERY typical. It was a repair slip for BROKEN LIGHTS!!! They were not BROKEN..got that.Even the MVA wanted to know why he gave it. Geesh, and yeah I am 25 I am not a Kid. Stop bugging people on here and go arrest someone.:licka:

Ripping me a new one huh? I personally could care less about her green lights. True, I didn't have to read her post, but at the same time, she doesn't need to blame the cop for doing his/her job. If you get into an accident and the paramedics take you to the hospital, are you going to get pissed at them because you got a $600 ride to the hospital to save your life? I mean hey, they are doing their jobs right?!?! You say that me taking up for a cop is typical...well yeah that's what we do. But I do also know that there are things that some cops do that are senseless, but hey, they are still well within their rights to do it, such at your repair slip. But you got it, and its over and done with, so let it go and move on. Quit pitching a fit about it because it won't change the fact that you got it!

yeah, he said brooklyn MIGHT, but they dont, thats unconstitutional (im actually surprised he even suggested a department might have quotas)

they pull you over for the tiniest things cuz THEY FUCKING CAN, (you gave them a liget reason) they mostly do though to see if a person is sober, and to make sure their liscense is valid, at 1:07am, i can guarantee you that was the case
if you're gonna keep that tiniest reason on your car, then expect to get pulled over alot more (so greens not legal in your state, shit happens, get over it)

Yes I am going to put them back on. It's a free country and it is not breaking the law. In order for an officer to issue a SERO 'Safety Equipment Repair Order ' that certain officer If he feels it's not of his standards can give it out. Like I said before it was for Broken lights, are you blind? They weren't broken,damaged,defective,non-functioning.Imagine If it was you, and you got pulled over and the officer gave you a slip for your lights being broken and they were NOT..how would you feel? I know you would not be happy about it. I am just expressing my feelings and opinions that's all. I mean what If it was your mom, dad,or girlfriend? I am sure they would be upset too.
I was not drunk, high,on my cell phone, speeding, picking my ass or whatever. I went up the street, not even a minutes time to go to 7-11 and all the sudden I find out from a cop my ligts are broken.
Hey If this helps any I'm ASIAN and CAUSACIAN=brown skin. The cop was white and he was very very rude to me. You just don't know.

Here's a question for everyone who thinks green lights are legal:

Don't you think by now, with all the popularity of modding ricers and all the fast & furious bullcrap, that some manufacturer, somewhere, would have put them in as factory equipment?

They don't?

It's becasue they're not street legal. Not in the USA, anyway.

So, go ahead and put in green, purple, blue, or whatever color you want. You know it's illegal. That's what makes you so much of a rebel anyway. It won't change the fact that I think it's gay, though.

/and no, I'm not some cop with a quota, either.

Keep your DOT lighting stock Amber turns and red for brakes and they won't bother you. The only thing i do that i shouldn't is i don't run my front license plates on any of my vehicles. I've only had something said to me once and that was because it was in my front window. Now its not even there nor on the front. No issues in 2 years.

Yes some departments have quotas. Most city municipalities don't, but I know that Alabama State Troopers do. Brooklyn may have quotas, but I don't see how a repair slip helps their quota. Usually quotas are for actual tickets. But I'm not in Brooklyn so I can't say for sure. She may be right about that.

Sweet page 3.

It all depends on if there is a noise ordinance in your city or state. We have city noise ordinances, but it's rare that someone is stopped for their exhaust unless it is like what jakegday said and it is used as an excuse to check for possible intoxication, drugs, or just a license check. Even then you'll probably only drive away with a warning.

Yeah well my experiences with cops been lucky...

My first ticket was $214 and i got away with $30..

Second time i was speeding 54 in a 35 and i got away with that...

Im happy lol...

Cops dont care about much here in hawaii... so of them have exhausts that are so loud they are louder then mine lol...

Hullova, I have been chased by two cops once. I didn't see when they issued me to stop. It was one evening, when I was going to city. There was speed limit 40 and I was going 55.
So when I didn't see'em they jumped into their new volkswagen passat b6 and they get going for me. I didn't see it - but there was a few people with me in my car - and one of them - a 10 year old girl said that the police is chasing us. To tell the truth i didnt believe her I thought she was joking so I have asked her whether she was joking and she said no and then I saw the police chasing us. In such situations I'm very quick on decisions and I have no fear so I stopped. I gave them 10 bucks and they have driven away. It wasn't in USA, it was in Ukraine.

Here is another one while I am here.

Last week we had a case were an insurance company was at fault for an accident. Next thing you know they are denying the case why.

Here is the set up.
Car A. is going down the road. crosses the medium and hits car B.

Car A is at fault but insurance company fights it because car B. had blue turn signals and blue strobes and attempted to prove that car a was blinded by car b.

Guess what Car b had to pay for thier own shit. You think they changed the blubs then?

I could give you hundreds of cases about insurance companies denying claims because of illegal lighting, illegal height and so forth.

Fact of the matter they tell you it if for "off road use only" for a reason. The fact that you are too stupid to realize that fact is beyond me.

Thats all I need to hear...

You say your not a child, oh your 25, you sure are acting like a child. In all my time here I have seen a lot of "wah wah cops suck i got a ticket" threads, and I have never, in any of them, seen someone piss and moan as much as you are. And they didnt even give you a ticket!

Definition of Quota:
quo·ta /ˈkwoʊtə/Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[kwoh-tuh]Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun 1.The share or proportional part of a total that is required from, or is due or belongs to, a particular district, state, person.

Cool! Hey, I got one for you now:

law 1 /lɔ/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[law] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun 1. the principles and regulations established in a community by some authority and applicable to its people, whether in the form of legislation or of custom and policies recognized and enforced by judicial decision.
2. any written or positive rule or collection of rules prescribed under the authority of the state or nation, as by the people in its constitution. Compare bylaw, statute law.

Huh, imagine that. There is a reason those little green bulbs you willfully installed on your car have "For Offroad Use Only" on the packaging. They are illegal.

Illegal.

Oh heres a thought...

il·le·gal /ɪˈligəl/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[i-lee-guhl] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–adjective 1. forbidden by law or statute.

Hey look at that! Forbidden by LAW. (See above definition).

Maybe this will help you, they get very specific:

5. Green light. One green light may be affixed to any motor vehicle
owned by a member of a volunteer ambulance service, or on a motor
vehicle owned by a member of such person's family, or by a business
enterprise in which such person has a proprietary interest or by which
he is employed, provided such member has been authorized in writing to
so affix a green light by the chief officer of such service as
designated by the members thereof. Such green light may be displayed
exclusively by such member of a volunteer ambulance service only when
engaged in an emergency operation. The use of green lights on vehicles
shall be restricted for use only by a member of a volunteer ambulance
service as provided for in this paragraph.

That means, unless you are a member of a volunteer firefighter service, and you were engaged in an emergency operation, they are...um...illegal!

Go ahead and bookmark this webpage in case you have any other confusion in the future.

http://public.leginfo.state.ny.us/menugetf.cgi?COMMONQUERY=LAWS

So, all in all, the product is clear that the green lights you affixed to your car are illegal. The state of New York makes it clear that the green lights you affixed to your car are illegal. If you read any thread about lights on this board, or any other, you would find them to be illegal. And common sense tells you they are illegal.

That being said, you willingly broke the law. And everytime you got in that car to drive, you were taking a risk. You made it a month, and got caught. Time to pay the piper.

When I built my Cavalier, I took several risks everytime I drove as well. As do most members on this board. Inclusing, but not limited to:

Illegal exhaust modification
Illegal alteration of suspension
Noise violation
Tint too dark.

I also ran blue underglow, but guess what? Not on public roads. Ya know why? Thats right, illegal!

Many cities also have laws regarding ride height.

Building cars is a big kids world. And big kids have grown up consequences. If your gonna play in our sandbox, your gonna have to play by our rules. If you cant handle Johnny Law knockin at your door, go find a new game.

Gearheads dont whine.

Do you feel better now that you got that off your chest? Iv'e stopped nagging about this topic. The only one moaning now is you, Iv'e gotten over this and you should too.

If you start a topic, it doesnt just disappear when you feel your "over it". Besides, you really should read what I wrote. Might put some sense into ya.

Hey everyone..I have not been on here since the last couple of posts that I made about this topic. I did notice that there are other posts on here that were NOT made by me. I confronted my cousin because we share the computer and she has been the one that has been prolonging this idiotic topic. Now because of what she has been saying..I don't want people thnking I said it because when I actually do need help on here I don't want to be shunned away. I apologise for any inconvenience that was caused on this thread. So..hopefully you guys don't hold this stuff against me. Again I am sorry.

Maybe stop off at the bar, have a couple drinks and then get pulled over for having green lights. I just wonder why peeps like to draw attention to themselves in the first place...
