Axle sealvandok13 09-13-2007, 11:46 PM 1988 4runner, 22re. Rear Axle seal went and leaked oil into my drum and all over my new brake pads. Do i have to get my rear axle seals machine pressed in and out?any help would be great thanks? and if i dont how do i get too the axle seals? vandok13 09-15-2007, 07:39 PM I have to get the exterior seal pressed because of the bearing but not interior seal on the housing for anyone with same problem Brian R. 09-15-2007, 09:51 PM You should be able to tap it in with a suitable diameter piece of pipe and a hammer. fourwd1 09-16-2007, 08:26 PM If it's the inner seal, you have to pull the axle shaft/drum brake assy. Basics: First disconnect the brake line and plug it. There are 4 bolts on the back side that hold it onto the axle housing. Slide the axle shaft assy out. Pry out the seal with a screwdriver, etc. Install the new seal, a socket the size of the seal makes it easier to tap it in. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
