I recently purchased a 94 firebird 3.4l off a friend for cheap do too its minor fixes it needs now there are a couple problems that have me dumbfounded The car when in park likes too idle at 1600-2000 rpm and while in gear 1000-1200 rpm AT A STOP LIGHT!!! now I tooke this in too the local shop had them run a diagnosis the comp showed nothing wrong while they had 3 certified mechanics under the hood they later told me that they would need too look more into it that it may possibly be a vaccum line now i sprayed carb cleaner around the hoses etc and nothing no rev or nething ne1 might have a similiar problem they might of come across or ne suggestions would be nice before i do suck it up and pay them too do it for me as I and my father are rather familiar with automobiles ouselves ne suggestions would be nice thnks

ok some new info here for those of u who might be able too help I tried replacing the TPS too no avail btw when i start the car up in the morning "when its cold" the car idles perfectly fine 900-1000 rpm in park 700+ in gear which is much nicer then the 2000 and the 1400 but when it warms up after a drive and i put it in park Bam 2000 rpm soo this only does this when the engine is warm and once it warms up the SES (Service Engine soon) comes on randomly and for periods at a time then goes off

we decided too take the enigne apart re gasket the intake etc and boy was it a mess the oil was so clumped up and sludged in the top of the engine u could take ur finger too it and get inches of gunk so after we finish putting her back together we are plannin on runin 3 qrts diesel 1 qrt oil too flush it as we tooke the intake off we notices a vaccuum line not attatched too nething on the very back of the pendum not sure if we pulled it off when we pulled the pendum off itself or not so hopefuly all this work shows some avail if not o well just purchased a lt1 for it too upgrade until this v-6 blows up
