Does the power steering pump pulley have to be removed before the bracket can be removed from the engine? I need to remove the bracket to access the oil pressure sending unit and it looks like 3 bolts hold the bracket to the engine, but one one of the bolts is obscured by the pulley. Is that true?

3 long bolts hold the power steering bracket in place.
1 is at about the 7 Oclock position relative to the power steering pump pulley as viewed from the passenger side of the vehicle.
That is on my '96 3.8L
I have a picture posted in my pictures.....on the first page that shows this
It looks like the bolt would be close to the edge of the pulley though.

Now, further in, you can barely see the 3 bolts that hold the power steering PUMP in the bracket.....so don't get these bolts.....close to the pump shaft confused with this.

I also found that the bracket was MUCH easier to work with if the alternator is removed......much less weight to try to manuver around in there.

Also....use a LOT of care with the metal line connection to the power steering pump.......you don't want to get it out of line....and strip it.
The metal line is the high pressure line out to the steering rack.....so a very small leak will be a big leak under the pressure.

I would also remove the serpentine belt FIRST......so that you do not get power steering fluid onto the belt.

The short answer to your question is yes, the pulley needs to be removed before you can access that 3rd bolt you are refering.

Thanks for the replies.

One more question:

Is there a bolt that holds the pulley on or is it pressed on? It looks like a large allen head bolt in the end of the pulley, but not sure if that's only for the puller to go on.

It is pressed on and you need a power steering pump pulley remover to get it on and off. I purchased mine from Advance Auto for about $28.

Thanks again. I think I now have enough info to do the job.
