99 isuzu rodeo0(5spd-manual)question about battery?nicolicious 09-09-2007, 11:43 AM does anyone know what the battery powers on a 99 isuzu rodeo? sorry to be so vague but if you have the time to read this I'll explain: my rodeo has about 163 000 miles on it and about 2 weeks ago I started noticing that the car would chug while riding at high speeds (5th gear and 70-80mph) kinda like a downshift..... since then i've baby'd the truck and the problem did not occur again until last night. I was running it pretty fast bc i was late (75-80mph). and the chuging came back but now its in all 5 gears and it had to get towed to my local repair shop bc it was almost undriveable. the tow shop guys seemed to think it was my fuel pump, the guy at the repair shop this morning automatically says ' its your clutch' which is alot more expensive then a fuelpump. so what im thinking is if the battery powers suchthings as a fuel pump, maybe i just need a new battery? anyhelp would be greatly appreciated, this truck has been very good to me with almost no problems ( except the a/c and fuel gauge). I did replace the timing belts at 90 000 miles. thanks trooperbc 09-09-2007, 02:45 PM essentially, the battery only powers stuff with the engine off, i.e. with the alternator off. specifically to the fuel pump. the battery is used to prime the fuel system pressure when you turn the key to ON. for 2 seconds. then the pump shuts off until the engine is turning, either from the starter or from running. as to the shops' diagnoses. either *could* be correct. offhand given your symptoms and conditions, it does sound more like the fuel pump. BUT... you or they need to do more testing before doing *any* work. they or you can test the fuel pressure and the fuel volume against spec. they or you can do some more testdriving of the trans to sort out whether the clutch is at fault -- start up a hill in third for example and see if it slips. if you suspect the fuel system, replace the fuel filter and see if that makes a difference first. //bc jasons93rodeo 09-09-2007, 05:12 PM sounds like a fuel pump or a crankshaft position sensor. when the ckp goes bad it is like a fuel pump going out are there any stored or active codes an egr valve can cause probs like that. worse thing you can do is let a tech work on it that says were gonna replace fuel pump cause we think it is bad. nicolicious 09-10-2007, 09:00 PM well i got news from the shop and guess what it was? bad gas. my fuel filter was black and covered with sediment, all my plugs had black tips. damn you racetrac. he told me that about a week ago the guy who fills up the tanks at racetrac put disel in the wrong tank. (dont know if thats possible) but there were others who had the same issue as me come in to his shop within the last week.... anyway he flushed out as much of the gas as he could, replaced my fuel filter, and changed a bunch of sparkplugs....i just tried it and it runs just like it did before....thank god......now a question...... my job requires me to drive alot. and its kind of a get there on time or be fired kind of job. Would you think of replacing a truck with 163 000 miles on it that just went through what my truck went through for a 2001 golf with 22k miles on it for 11 000?????? maybe i should ask the vw fourm..... any way thanks for all your replies and suggestions... vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
