I've got a '87 Caprice and I'm trying to restore it cosmetically accurate. What color is the brake booster supposed to be? I've looked around and seen mostly silver or grey ones. I thought it might be that gold anodized looking color though. Anybody know? Thanks.

The booster in 1987 was either that brass-colored thing or a powder-coat black. Either one would be cosmetically correct.

Of course, if you want a really fast brake booster, we all know it has to be chrome (or at least polished).

Most of the OEM boosters were zinc plated, yellow dichromate coated, and then were frequently painted semi-gloss black depending upon which vehicle or assembly plant it might have landed in. As I recall, many of the stock B-Car boosters I've seen were plain yellow dichromated zinc (no paint).

I'm not sure what that yellow looks like unless you mean that gold/bronze looking color. Anybody got a picture under the hood with their stock booster?

Yellow dichromate over zinc will have a "gold/bronze" or "dirty brass" coloring.

Now you wait just one cotton-pickin' minute there, Blue Bowtie.

Everyone, who's anyone, KNOWS that if you want it fast, it has to be RED. The chrome will have a tendency to stop at every car gathering around.

Anyways, mine was the dichromate zinc, until it inexplicably died one day - nearly causing me to deliver a Chevrolet Enema into a Ford Focus. The new one is now black.

Found some paint from Eastwood that looks pretty cool. Anybody had experience with this stuff?
