1991 camry transmission removalkatherinejson 09-08-2007, 11:03 PM I've searched the forums and I can't find anything about this issue, so here it goes: My dad and I are fixing the transmission and the clutch in my 91 camry [4 cyl manual(obviously... ie "clutch")] because, well, something just isn't right. At first we figured that it wasn't completely disengaging, so we tightened the freeplay on the clutch to about 1/2in, and that KIINNDDAAA fixed it. Now, the gears go into place fine, the clutch will engage and disengage fine, but when we took it around the block to test it out, it would be fine for about 10 seconds then sputter then revv up, like it will if you press on the gas when in neutral, after the gears had already been engaged, and we can smell the clutch burning up as well, so we know that's an obvious issue. My dad thinks it has something to do with the transmission AND the clutch at the same time, so we've gone about taking it all apart, all those damn nuts and bolts, getting dirty, the whole nine yards, only to end the day with not being able to actually pull the transmission out of the car! We spent about 3 hours trying to pull it out but it keeps getting stuck in between the wheel well and the engine. For further clarification, it's more than unhooked from where it's supposed to be. Everything is disconnected, all the bolts are out, etc, but it seems almost impossible to get it out. so, after explaining all that the problem is: we can't get the transmission out so we can look at it. I need to know if there is a special way to do it, offically or not. It's taking a lot more work than need be, and honestly is quite frustrating, so any help would be really appreciated. thanks in advance! --katherine johnson RIP 09-09-2007, 02:35 AM Download your factory manual from the Factory Service Manuals thread at the top of the forum. Should have the procedure there. katherinejson 09-09-2007, 09:37 AM Download your factory manual from the Factory Service Manuals thread at the top of the forum. Should have the procedure there. We already have the factory manual, it hasn't helped us much. :/ vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
