89 dakota wont crank

i have a 89 dakota it cut out on me why driving, pulled off tried to re-crank it wont fire nothing from the the switch, have head lights but the volt meter reads nothing and ac still works.

Look for a main fuse or fusable wire.

i have checked all of the fuses and they are all good, but i fuseable link blew and now i am trying to run down the short but it is just taking time.

When that happens to me I put'er in first then back up to park a few times and she fires right back up...doesn't happen very often though.

You may have a park/neutral switch, located on the transmission housing, if automatic, gone bad.

My 1989 is sitting in the driveway now. The starter will not work.

It could be the shifter linkage needs adjustment also.

I haven't had time to check out my starting problem on my "89 Dakota, 3.9, Automatic Transmission, 4x4.

Symptoms: 1. Head lights are strong, so it isn't the battery.
2. When moving the shift lever thru the gears, there is no drag.
3. Would a bad Neutral switch cause this, or do
you think there is a linkage problem?

i just finally took it to my local dealership. it cost me over 400 just for a wiring harness to be replaced.
