89 dakota wont crankGeorgiaboy83 09-08-2007, 08:50 PM i have a 89 dakota it cut out on me why driving, pulled off tried to re-crank it wont fire nothing from the the switch, have head lights but the volt meter reads nothing and ac still works. taillight 09-09-2007, 10:58 AM Look for a main fuse or fusable wire. Georgiaboy83 09-11-2007, 05:06 AM i have checked all of the fuses and they are all good, but i fuseable link blew and now i am trying to run down the short but it is just taking time. taillight 09-11-2007, 09:10 AM Look for missing insulation. Andydg 09-12-2007, 12:33 AM When that happens to me I put'er in first then back up to park a few times and she fires right back up...doesn't happen very often though. zulu38 09-25-2007, 11:43 PM You may have a park/neutral switch, located on the transmission housing, if automatic, gone bad. My 1989 is sitting in the driveway now. The starter will not work. It could be the shifter linkage needs adjustment also. Good Luck! Robert zulu38 09-26-2007, 10:42 PM I haven't had time to check out my starting problem on my "89 Dakota, 3.9, Automatic Transmission, 4x4. Symptoms: 1. Head lights are strong, so it isn't the battery. 2. When moving the shift lever thru the gears, there is no drag. 3. Would a bad Neutral switch cause this, or do you think there is a linkage problem? Georgiaboy83 09-27-2007, 02:57 AM i just finally took it to my local dealership. it cost me over 400 just for a wiring harness to be replaced. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
