Hyundai computer OBD codes?

I just bought a 1994 Hyundai Excel. has a 1.5L engine with 5 speed manual transmission.

It cruises GREAT down the highway getting 34-35 MPG just fine with no problems, but at idle this thing runs like absolute CRAP. The RPM's will "hunt" up and down up and down. It also seems like it's missing intermittently and sometimes wants to die.

Now, I've had plenty of experience working on Chevy's, Fords and other domestic cars. Hell I've even worked on a VW or two, but this is my first time wirking on one of these little Korean turds... I have no idea what is what under the engine compartment.

I tried looking up how to read the trouble codes from the computer and found that you have to use a multimeter and count the needle sweeps, yadda-yadda. Well I did that, but I'll be damned if I can decipher what the needle sweeps are telling me.

hi dont know if you still need help with this but my first guess would be throtle position sensor is on its way out, has your check engin elight come on at all?

despite what you find on the net its actually pretty common for you to be able to access the code via the check light.

by bridging a terminal to ground and watching the flash pattern.
