Nickel plated slip yoke.dcmaynard 09-06-2007, 02:44 PM Where can I find a nickel plated slip yoke and would it be hard to install my self? knewman 09-06-2007, 08:33 PM I purchased all of mine through my local GM dealer. They are approx $150.00. Not two difficult to replace if you have done u joints before. Unbolt the driveshaft from the rear (4 bolts) make sure you mark it though just to make sure you put it in the same way you took it out. Anyway, once the DS is unbolted pull the driveshaft out with the slip yolk attached . Replace the u joint & slip yolk & reinstall. silverado122775 09-07-2007, 02:57 PM I just bought mine from the dealer for $195. They originally wanted $242. but I talked them down :) vnotaro 09-07-2007, 03:17 PM Is this really a fix for the "clunk"? silverado122775 09-07-2007, 03:21 PM here is the deal. If you look under the truck and look at the slip Yoke, it is most likely rusted. That rust is creating friction in the transfer case, causing the "clunk" sound. Nickel does not rust. therefore the sound will go away. you can replace it with a non-nickel plated and it will go away until the rust sets in. BTW the dealer only has the Nicket-plated slip yoke. it is the only choice you can get.. Chevy did away with the old style. pelletman 10-02-2007, 10:41 PM Is the plating the only difference? You could probably get one plated for 50 bucks or so markz71 10-12-2007, 07:38 AM had the nickel plated slip yoke put in still clunks silverado122775 10-12-2007, 10:01 AM Mine does not clunk anymore. You may have another issue. Do you know where the clunk is comming from? It may not be comming from underneath the truck. yakk 10-17-2007, 03:22 PM Or you could try the racquetball method (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=466157&page=5&highlight=racquetball). silverado122775 10-17-2007, 04:00 PM That is in sane! LOL yakk 10-18-2007, 10:58 AM That is in sane! LOL But lots of folks are having success with it. J-Ri 10-18-2007, 04:27 PM Won't the transmission fluid disolve the rubber over time? I'd be worried about doing that. 232 thumper 10-18-2007, 04:53 PM Had new U-joints put in last year. Bit the bullet and had the new slip yoke put in as well. Clunk went away.... for almost two whole weeks! silverado122775 10-18-2007, 09:08 PM Had new U-joints put in last year. Bit the bullet and had the new slip yoke put in as well. Clunk went away.... for almost two whole weeks! was it nickel-plated? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
