I used to have the problem that it would completely latch down and it would occasionally fly open when I hit a bump, etc. Now it won't open. I can hear the release (dash) button trying to activate the solenoid but nothing. No resistance when the external button is physically pushed either.

Before I start tinkerring around and possibly (hope not) screw things up, I was wonderring if this is a common problem with an easy fix. I see there is a plugged (access?) hole right in front of the lock mechanism but haven't popped it off yet.

had similar problem mine wouldnt latch. there was just somthing in a bind took gate panel trim off worked the connecting rod to the latch and it started working. did some basic cleaning and haven't had any trouble since.

Update: It turns out someone hit my spare (rear mounted) tire and pushed in the mechanism a bit. Took it to my body shop guy and he had it all working again in about an hour for only $25.00.
