Front Rigth Axle leak? (i think) 99 ram 1500 4x4 5.9L v8

I'm having trouble figuring out exactly what this piece is called that is leaking. I have photos posted here (http://www.1253cedar.com/ram/) and have made little yellow arrows pointing to where the leak is in one photo. If someone knows what this thing is called and can tell me what I need to do to fix that would be great.

I'm thinking that the axle fluid is leaking out of it and I will just need to un bolt it and replace the gasket and will probably replace the differential fluid at the same time, but anyone's advise is appreciated.

Thanks!

that is the CAD (Central Axle Disconnect) housing. you can either get a replacement gasket, or just use some RTV. just remove the 4 bolts holding it to the axle, pull the housing and old gasket, replace gasket, and reinstall the housing. just make sure to get the shift fork lined up correctly on the color when putting everything back together.
also, if you put the pass. side tire on a ramp, or jack up that side of the axle, you won't loose as much fluid when you pull the CAD housing.

Thanks! I've never opened the CAD up before. Will the shift fork be noticeable or will I need to know what it looks like when I open it up? I really appreciate your help and hope you don't mind helping me on this one last thing.

Thanks Again!

don't mind helping at all. only bad part is that every time I help with a dodge related problem, I realize how much I miss my truck :frown:

anyway, back to the topic, all of the parts (shift fork, shift collar) shoud be easy to see, and as long as you don't move the shift fork wile taking things apart, it should slide back together without any problems.

there are some pictures here, http://dodgeram.org/tech/repair/4X4/4x4_engagment.htm that might help at least give you an idea of what you should see when you pull the cover off.

if you have any more questions, just ask,
glad to help,
Keith
